📖 SYNOPSIS
When a body-swapping spell tears through an imperial court against one woman's will, the fallout is way more compelling than it has any right to be. Futsutsuka na Akujo dewa Gozaimasu ga is set in a gorgeous historical Chinese-inspired kingdom where five noble clans each put forward a daughter to compete for the role of empress. Kou Reirin is the frontrunner — elegant, virtuous, basically flawless — except her body is so frail she can barely stand. Meanwhile, Shu Keigetsu is the so-called "court rat," looked down on by everyone and seething with envy. During the Lantern Festival, Keigetsu uses magic to steal Reirin's body and identity. Now Reirin is stuck in Keigetsu's healthy but socially worthless body, trying to navigate a court that suddenly treats her like trash. The hook here is watching someone whose power was always tied to status and reputation figure out who she really is when all of that gets stripped away. Doga Kobo is handling the animation, the source is a light novel, and the villainess angle gives it a different flavor than your standard court drama. If you liked the court intrigue vibes of My Next Life as a Villainess but wanted something with more teeth, or if The Executioner and Her Way of Life sold you on fantasy stories centering women with actual stakes, this one's worth keeping on your radar for 2026.
