Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Having spent his entire life on battlefields, teenage mercenary Sousuke Sagara has now been assigned to protect a high school girl named Kaname Chidori by posing as a normal student. The problem is, Sousuke has zero concept of what "normal" means. Someone leaves a love letter in his locker? That's clearly a bomb threat. A stranger approaches Kaname? Time to deploy smoke grenades in the hallway. This 12-episode TV series strips away the mecha and geopolitics of the original Full Metal Panic and just drops Sousuke into everyday school life to see what happens. And what happens is consistently, genuinely funny. Kyoto Animation handled this one, and their comedic timing is razor sharp — every reaction shot, every escalation lands exactly right. Kaname spends most of her time trying to be a responsible student council vice president while physically dragging Sousuke away from whatever military solution he's cooked up for a completely mundane problem. Their dynamic carries the whole show. It's not trying to be deep or emotional, it's just a really well-executed comedy about a guy whose only frame of reference is war trying to navigate high school. If you liked the humor in Code Geass when Lelouch had to deal with school nonsense, or if Black Lagoon's fish-out-of-water moments were your thing, this is that energy for a full series. You don't strictly need to watch the original first, but it helps.
