Synopsis

Without any warning or input from him, Ryo finds government officials at his door one day informing him he's getting married. He's in high school. He has no say in this. His new fiancée, Shizuka, arrives with literal government bodyguards and immediately starts acting like she owns the place — cooking, cleaning, calling him her husband-to-be — while Ryo wants absolutely none of it. That's the setup for Final Approach, a 2004 TV series where every episode runs about 13 minutes, so the whole thing wraps up faster than most single-cour shows. Ryo is already in a tough spot, living alone with his younger sister Akane after losing their parents. Then this forced marriage program drops into their lives and suddenly their quiet routine has a very enthusiastic stranger at the center of it. The comedy comes from watching Shizuka's relentless optimism crash into Ryo's resistance, but there's some genuine emotional weight underneath once the family dynamics start to develop. If you liked Love and Lies for its government-mandated relationship premise, this covers similar ground with a lighter touch. If Nisekoi's fake-relationship tension was your thing, Final Approach has that same push-and-pull energy, though it leans more domestic than dramatic. Fans of Shuffle! will recognize the visual novel roots and the slow softening of a reluctant male lead. It's short, it's comedic, and it does not overstay its welcome. Good for a lazy afternoon when you want something low-stakes with just enough heart to keep it interesting.
