Disney Twisted-Wonderland The Animation: Episode of Heartslabyul
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Meet Yuuken Enma — a regular kendo kid whose biggest worry is an upcoming tournament — until a mysterious black carriage literally crashes into his life and drops him in Twisted Wonderland, a world where magic is real and he has absolutely none of it. He ends up at Night Raven College, a prestigious mage academy where every dormitory is themed around a classic Disney villain, and he's just... some guy. No powers, no plan, no way home. His only ally at first is Grim, a fire-breathing cat-like creature with a massive ego and dreams of becoming a real student. Together they stumble into friendships with Ace Trappola and Deuce Spade from the Heartslabyul dorm, which operates under the iron-fisted rule of Riddle Rosehearts and his obsessive enforcement of the Queen of Hearts' Laws. Think rigid, arbitrary rules enforced with real magical consequences — it gets tense. This 8-episode ONA covers the Heartslabyul arc, so it's a tight, contained story with a clear payoff. The character designs are genuinely striking, pulling from Disney villain aesthetics in ways that feel fresh rather than gimmicky. If you enjoyed the fish-out-of-water magic school dynamic of The Irregular at Magic High School, or the "normal person dropped into a strange world" setup of Re:Zero, this scratches a similar itch but with a more youthful, lighthearted tone. The humor and camaraderie between the main group carry it — Yuu figuring out how to survive purely on wits while surrounded by overpowered mages is honestly pretty fun to watch.
