📖 SYNOPSIS
A desperate prison break leaves Liu Min with nothing but sheer desperation, which drives him to steal a dead young master's identity. That alone would be enough trouble, but it also drops him headfirst into the world of immortal cultivation — a world he has zero business being in. Raised among criminals and surrounded by evil his whole life, Liu Min's biggest threat isn't the demons roaming the land or the powerful cultivators who could end him on a whim. It's the fact that the line between becoming an immortal and becoming a demon yourself comes down to a single moment of weakness. And he's got plenty of weaknesses to exploit.
This 16-episode ONA from Wonder Cat Animation builds out a genuinely interesting fantasy setting where humans and demons coexist, morality is more spectrum than binary, and the protagonist isn't some chosen hero — he's a survivor doing whatever it takes. The identity theft premise gives it a constant tension underneath the cultivation battles, because Liu Min is always one slip away from being exposed or consumed by something worse than exposure.
If you liked the morally grey cultivation world of Mo Dao Zu Shi or the sprawling dark fantasy of Tribes and Empires: Storm of Prophecy, this hits a similar nerve. It also shares DNA with Tian Wu Ji in how it handles the human cost of pursuing power. The tone leans intense and suspenseful rather than flashy, which makes the action feel like it actually matters when it lands.
