Not blood, apparently, though the movie is coy about what exactly it is. That mystery is part of the draw. Mosquito wanders through desolate, haunted terrain filled with spectral entities called Beached Things, and the tension never really lets up. The visual style is worth mentioning here — ABC Animation Studio went with a hybrid approach, blending hand-drawn linework with digital compositing, and it gives the whole thing a gritty, textured look that fits the bleakness of the world. The soundtrack leans hard into atmosphere too, all dread and quiet unease. If you liked the existential weight of Neon Genesis Evangelion or the oppressive world-building in Made in Abyss, this hits a similar nerve. There's also a bit of Attack on Titan energy in how it frames humanity as fragile and surrounded by things that shouldn't exist. It's a single movie, so there's no massive time commitment — just a dense, moody sci-fi story that expands the Death Stranding lore in a direction the games haven't gone.
