📖 SYNOPSIS

Sent to Earth from the planet Geppler to prepare for an invasion, an extraterrestrial operative devises a brilliant strategy. Disguise himself as a Shiba Inu named Chikuwa and harvest 'kawaene' — cute energy — generated every time a human goes 'aww' at him. That's the whole plan. Look adorable, collect energy, conquer the planet. He gets placed with the Inumiya family, a couple named Banjiro and Madoka, and things are going smoothly until they bring home a newborn daughter, Nene. Suddenly Chikuwa isn't the cutest thing in the house anymore, and his entire invasion scheme starts falling apart because a baby is stealing his spotlight.

This 12-episode TV series from 2025 is based on a web manga, and it leans hard into the absurdity of its premise without ever trying to be more than what it is — a comedic slice-of-life about a scheming alien dog slowly getting domesticated by family life. The humor comes from Chikuwa's internal monologue clashing with how genuinely cute he is on the outside, and the show knows exactly how to milk that gap. The animation style plays into it too, making Chikuwa almost irritatingly adorable.

If you liked the alien-pet comedy vibes of something like Chinpui, or the villain-who-can't-quite-be-evil energy of Makeruna!! Aku no Gundan!, this sits in that same lane. It's low-stakes, warm, and genuinely funny when it wants to be. Good palate cleanser between heavier shows.
