Synopsis

All the guy wants is a girlfriend, some decent food, and to not get murdered every other day — is that really so much to ask? Too bad every assassin on the planet has other plans. Chainsaw Man: Shikaku-hen picks up after the Reze arc and throws Denji into what's basically an international hit list situation. Governments around the world want the Chainsaw Devil's power, and they're sending their best killers to Japan to take it. We're talking Quanxi, a legendary Chinese Devil Hunter who could probably solo most of the cast before breakfast, and Santa Claus, whose name sounds goofy until you see what they're actually capable of. The first stretch sets up this paranoid, claustrophobic feeling where Denji and the crew know something's coming but can't pin down where from. It's dark, violent, and doesn't pull punches — literally or narratively. The animation carries over that same fluid, hard-hitting quality from earlier installments, and the soundtrack keeps everything feeling heavy and atmospheric. If you liked the moral gray areas and brutal fight choreography of Jujutsu Kaisen, or the body horror and identity crises of Tokyo Ghoul, this hits a similar nerve but with Chainsaw Man's particular brand of chaotic energy. There's also some Devilman Crybaby DNA in here — that same willingness to go somewhere genuinely uncomfortable. Based on the manga's Assassins Arc, which a lot of readers consider a high point for the series.
