Boonie Bears: The Hidden Protector
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Vick is a logger who's spent years chasing two bears out of his forest. Briar and Bramble are those bears, and they've been making his life miserable right back. It's a whole thing — slapstick, property damage, the usual cartoon rivalry. But in this movie, their petty woodland feud gets completely derailed when they stumble across Nian, the legendary monster from Chinese New Year folklore. Instead of eating them (which is kind of Nian's deal in the old stories), it gives all three of them mysterious martial arts powers and dumps them into Eve City, a hidden urban realm where magic is just part of daily life and everything is chaos. Now these three idiots who can barely stand each other have to figure out their new abilities, survive a city that runs on supernatural rules they don't understand, and work together despite years of mutual antagonism. The comedy lands differently when the slapstick trio suddenly has real power behind their punches. If you liked the absurd humor and surprisingly fun action in Scissor Seven, or the "normal person thrown into a magical world" setup of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun, this hits similar notes but with a distinctly Chinese folklore flavor. Think Fairy Tail's guild-city energy but aimed at families. It's a Fantawild Animation production, so expect polished visuals and genuinely creative set pieces built around the martial arts power system. The Boonie Bears franchise has been running for years, but this one stands on its own — no homework required.
