EPISODE CONTEXT
Coming off the revelations delivered in "True Identity," this episode deliberately decelerates to process their emotional fallout through Aiko's perspective as the newly designated pilot. Sitting at episode 17 of 24, "Affection" occupies the late-season stretch where Bokurano shifts from world-building toward intimate character eulogies, making each pilot's chapter feel increasingly weighted. It sets the stage for "Reality," where the consequences of the pilots' cumulative choices begin pressing harder on the surviving cast.
