Boku to Roboko Movie
Oshimeter
Synopsis
On Bondo's block, every kid has a sleek, high-tech robot maid. Bondo, a 10-year-old with big dreams and zero luck, finally convinces his mom to order one — and gets Roboco. She's muscular, clumsy, wildly overpowered, and has the social awareness of a brick thrown through a window. She's basically the worst possible version of what he wanted, and that's the entire joke. Boku to Roboko started as a manga that built a cult following by being a full-on parody machine. It riffs on everything from Doraemon's helpful-robot premise to shounen battle manga tropes, except nothing goes the way it's supposed to. Roboco "helps" with homework, neighborhood disputes, and daily errands the way a wrecking ball helps with demolition — technically effective, always catastrophic. The movie takes that energy and puts it on the big screen, animated by Studio Gallop. The vibe here is closest to Gintama's style of humor — absurd parody mixed with surprisingly warm character moments that sneak up on you between the chaos. If you grew up watching Crayon Shin-chan and appreciated how it could be genuinely sweet underneath all the dumb jokes, this hits a similar frequency. The meta-humor is sharp, constantly poking at manga conventions and modern life without ever feeling forced. It's a comedy that knows exactly what it is and never pretends to be anything else, which is honestly refreshing.
