Synopsis
What starts as a harmless camping trip in the woods takes a dark turn when your group stumbles across a mansion that definitely should not be there. That's the setup for Kurohime: Shikkoku no Yakata, a 2-episode OVA from 2002 that leans hard into the haunted house formula — but with a distinctly adult edge. The campers go in curious, and one by one they start disappearing. At the center of it all is a mysterious woman whose mansion seems designed to swallow people whole. Nobody knows who she is, what she wants, or whether anyone is getting out. The tension builds slowly, and the secluded forest setting does a lot of heavy lifting to keep things feeling claustrophobic and unsettling. This one sits at the intersection of horror atmosphere and erotic themes, so if you went into Bible Black appreciating the dark, suspenseful buildup before things escalate, this scratches a similar itch. It is not trying to be subtle about what it is, but it does put more effort into its mysterious premise than most entries in the genre bother with. The mansion as a trap, the vanishing friends, the enigmatic antagonist — it has genuine tension threading through it. If you liked the eerie gothic tone of titles like Bible Black or the more story-driven approach found in Discipline: The Record of a Crusade, Kurohime offers a compact two-episode experience that does not overstay its welcome.
