It's darker and more emotionally complex than the earlier seasons — closer to the conspiracy arcs in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood than the monster-fighting setup you started with. If you liked the political tension in Claymore or the way Neon Genesis Evangelion peeled back layers on its world, this scratches a similar itch. Don't sleep on it just because it's a middle season. This is where the story stops being about fighting Titans and starts being about why the Titans exist in the first place.
