All this Shibuya high school kid named You wants to do is play music, but his family won't get off his back and his band is falling apart. Then one day he hears a voice calling for help, gets swallowed by a white light, and wakes up on Meguriboshi — a planet tearing itself apart over an energy source called Hoshichi, or Star Blood. A ceasefire was almost in reach, but his arrival throws everything sideways, and now he's caught in the middle of an interplanetary mecha war he didn't sign up for. This is a movie, so it moves fast — no filler, no dragging arcs. Studio GOONEYS and Honoo put together a visual style that blends traditional 2D with some genuinely sharp CGI, and the mecha designs feel grounded in the world rather than just thrown in for spectacle. The soundtrack leans into both orchestral and electronic, which fits the whole torn-between-two-worlds thing You is dealing with. There's a personal story underneath the sci-fi — a kid figuring out who he is while literally being displaced from everything he knows. If you liked Noein's dimensional-conflict drama or the way Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone drops a reluctant protagonist into something way bigger than them, this hits a similar nerve. It's also got shades of E's Otherwise with its isekai-adjacent setup. Worth your time if you want mecha with actual emotional stakes packed into a single sitting.
