Aldnoah.Zero (Re+)
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Fifteen years of shaky ceasefire following a devastating war between Earth and Mars come to a breaking point when a princess from the Vers Empire arrives hoping to build peace — and gets assassinated on arrival. Or at least, that's what it looks like. That's the spark that sends the Vers Empire's ridiculously overpowered mecha crashing back down to Earth, and suddenly high schooler Inaho Kaizuka is fighting a war with nothing but a training mech and a brain that works like a chess engine. This compilation movie condenses the Aldnoah.Zero story into a single film, recut by studio TROYCA with a Hiroyuki Sawano soundtrack that hits exactly as hard as you'd expect if you've heard his work before. The thing that sets this apart from most mecha shows is that the fights aren't about who has the bigger robot. Inaho wins by figuring out the specific weakness of each seemingly invincible Martian Kataphrakt, which gives the battles a problem-solving tension that's genuinely satisfying. On the other side, there's Slaine Troyard — a human raised on Mars with complicated loyalties — and his arc threads through the political scheming in ways that'll feel familiar if you liked Code Geass or the factional politics in Mobile Suit Gundam. It's a war story where the tactics matter, the sides aren't cleanly drawn, and the power gap between the factions keeps things desperate. If you've been curious about Aldnoah.Zero but didn't want to commit to the full series, this is a clean entry point.
