A Foreign Love Affair
Oshimeter
Synopsis
On paper, yakuza heir Ranmaru Oumi sounds like he has it made — spending his wedding night on a luxury European cruise — until you realize he hates his new wife, she hates him, and the whole marriage is just a political arrangement between clans. They argue, split off to do their own thing, and Ranmaru ends up at the ship's bar feeling sorry for himself. That's where he meets Al Valentino, the Italian captain who is inexplicably obsessed with Japanese culture and has absolutely zero chill about it. What starts as a weird chance encounter slowly turns into something neither of them expected. This 2-episode OVA is pretty light and comedic in tone — it's not trying to be a tearjerker. The contrast between Ranmaru's stiff, reserved yakuza-guy energy and Al's big, warm, enthusiastic personality carries most of the charm. The cruise ship and Italian setting also give it a breezy, almost vacation-romance feel that stands out from the usual Boys Love fare. If you've watched Tight-rope and liked the yakuza-meets-romance angle, or enjoyed the comedic misunderstandings in Kirepapa., this scratches a similar itch in a much shorter runtime. It's also adapted from manga, so the story has a pretty clean shape to it. At just two episodes, it doesn't overstay its welcome — it's the kind of thing you put on when you want something fun and low-stakes without a big time commitment.
