Even though they were only formed, their relationship being that close already is something Tokiyuki definitely needs after all he's been through. He needs a safe space and support.

Yorishige balances being Tokiyuki’s trusted guide & utterly incompetent which gives some great moments between the two. Even with the odds against them his enthusiasm makes me believe in the journey. I also love the Dragonball Z reference.

The art direction is still very consistent. This episode focuses more on the narrative and building relationships between the characters before pushing the plot forward. The small cliffhanger sets up the next conflict nicely. Pacing so far feels really solid.

This one was a real reality check. The shift from the bright palace life to the Forest of the Dead was super grim but necessary. The animation during the confrontation with the "Ogre" official was crisp.

Amazing episode! Kinda slow burn at the start, but once you got to the middle till end part it's pure chaotic. Tokiyuki is getting more comfortable with his unusual fighting style, or rather evading skills. Action scenes were superbly animated with humor thrown in between.

A more laid back episode that introduce us to Yorishige on the first half, then Tokiyuki's retainer on the other half. It's a fun two parter epiosde, with great visual and a cliffhanger ending. I'm seeing a pattern of this show showing comedy with great action on the side.

Tokiyuki starts learning how to survive and train with new allies. The episode mixes action with character development.

pretty boring

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming off the gut-punch of 'The Gentle Uncle' in episode 2, where familial betrayal shattered Tokiyuki's world, episode 3 pivots into the rebuilding phase—establishing the training and mentorship under Yorishige that will define his transformation. This is the foundation episode for the season's core arc of gathering allies and developing Tokiyuki's skills, setting the stage for the recruitment-focused episodes that follow as the series moves toward its mid-season escalation.
