Nezumi-kun no Chokki (TV) Episode 2: Episode 2

The story opens with Nezumi-kun, a small mouse, proudly displaying a vibrant red vest. His mother knitted it, and his joy is palpable as he flexes and poses. He revels in its perfect fit, a simple garment imbued with familial love. When a large Elephant admires the vest, Nezumi-kun firmly refuses to let him try it, knowing it would surely tear. His initial possessiveness over this cherished gift is quite understandable.

Soon, Nemi-chan, another mouse, appears with a polka-dotted umbrella that mirrors the vest's striking red. She compliments Nezumi-kun on his attire and asks if she might try it on. Since Nemi-chan is the same size, Nezumi-kun happily agrees, confident that his precious vest will remain unharmed. Nemi-chan dances in the garment, showcasing its beauty before it leaves his possession.

The vest's troubles begin when a Duck asks to wear it, then immediately plunges into water, stretching and fading the wool. Nezumi-kun watches in horror as his gift becomes a dull, misshapen thing. Next, a Sea Lion takes the now-loose vest for a swim, further elongating its fibers into a rope-like form. Finally, a massive Hippo dons the vest, expanding it to its absolute limits, leaving Nezumi-kun in silent despair at his mother's ruined handiwork.

As the vest hangs like a giant, misshapen loop on the Hippo, the Elephant from earlier reappears. He sees the peculiar garment and asks to try it. To everyone's astonishment, the vest, stretched beyond recognition, now fits the Elephant's massive frame perfectly. The Elephant is overjoyed, finally having a vest of his own. Nezumi-kun stops his tears, realizing the vest has found its proper purpose.

The story concludes with a hopeful note, showing Nezumi-kun beside a ball of red yarn. He begins to pull a thread, suggesting he intends to knit again, perhaps a new, correctly-sized vest for himself. This displays his quiet resilience and positive attitude. The episode ends with a joyous musical sequence, featuring all the animal friends, culminating in Nezumi-kun playfully swinging on the Elephant's trunk-vest.
