The Provocation
Sanemi Shinazugawa, the Wind Hashira, descends upon the wooden box containing Nezuko, his Nichirin sword piercing the wood to draw her blood. His intent is clear: to expose the demon within. Tanjiro Kamado, bound and helpless, screams, a raw sound of terror and powerlessness as he watches his sister being tormented. Sanemi's face holds a manic grin, indifferent to Tanjiro's pleas, as he prepares to escalate his cruel test.
The Temptation
Sanemi deepens the test by slicing his own arm, his rare marechi blood dripping, a potent lure for any demon. Nezuko finally emerges from her box, her demonic form fully manifest, her body trembling with the struggle against her primal instincts. She drools, drawn by the scent, a harrowing display of her internal battle. Tanjiro watches, frozen in horror, fearing this public failure.
Tanjiro's Desperation
As Nezuko battles her urges, Tanjiro lies pinned to the ground by Obanai Iguro, the Serpent Hashira, his breathing restricted. He strains to call out to Nezuko, desperate to remind her of their bond. Shinobu Kocho intervenes, her polite warning about Tanjiro's health forcing Obanai to ease his pressure. Then, Giyu Tomioka steps forward, silently compelling Obanai to release Tanjiro entirely, allowing the young slayer to finally voice his pleas to his sister.
A Mother's Embrace
Inside her mind, Nezuko fights the bloodlust, pulled back by vivid memories. She sees her mother, Kie Kamado, a gentle, smiling presence preparing a meal, a beacon of peace from a life now lost. The memories shift to her younger siblings playing, innocent and happy, intertwined with Urokodaki Sakonji's voice echoing his hypnotic command: all humans are family, protect them. This internal anchor fortifies her. She remembers Tanjiro's battered face, his constant suffering for her, and the gravity of his hope.
The Refusal
With a sharp, decisive movement, Nezuko pulls her head away from Sanemi's bleeding arm, closing her eyes in a clear sign of rejection. The growling stops. She ignores the potent lure, her control shocking the assembled Hashira, who had expected her to succumb. Sanemi stares, his cruel experiment having failed to produce the monstrous outcome he desired.
Oyakata-sama's Judgment
A stunned silence falls as Nezuko's refusal settles over the courtyard. Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the master, receives confirmation of Nezuko's restraint from his daughters. He calmly declares the trial concluded, stating this is undeniable proof of her control. Uzui Tengen watches with a flamboyant grin, while Mitsuri Kanroji appears relieved. Gyomei Himejima continues to weep, praying for the children. Oyakata-sama then directly addresses Tanjiro, his soothing voice granting an official blessing for the siblings to remain in the Corps.
A Humble Vow
Tanjiro bows his head in profound respect, his voice thick with emotion as he vows to defeat Muzan Kibutsuji alongside Nezuko. The declaration is grand, full of youthful fire, but Oyakata-sama gently corrects him. He advises Tanjiro that his words exceed his current ability, urging him to first defeat a Twelve Kizuki. Tanjiro flushes with embarrassment, realizing the arrogance of his statement, while Mitsuri struggles to hide her amusement. Oyakata-sama firmly closes the discussion on Tanjiro's punishment, ensuring his decision stands.
The Departure
Shinobu Kocho offers her Butterfly Mansion for Tanjiro and Nezuko's recovery, and two Kakushi quickly appear to transport them. As the Kakushi hastily carry Tanjiro away, he tries to express his gratitude to Oyakata-sama, but they frantically try to silence him, eager to escape the Hashira's intimidating presence. In a final, defiant burst, Tanjiro breaks free and shouts at Sanemi, challenging him to another headbutt. Muichiro Tokito, seemingly distracted by birds, effortlessly lobs pebbles that knock Tanjiro unconscious, ending the outburst. Oyakata-sama watches the chaotic exit with a serene smile.
