Tanjiro wakes on cold gravel, bound and bruised. The serene wisteria garden outside the Demon Slayer headquarters offers no comfort. He is immediately confronted by a Kakushi, then by the calm, unsettling presence of Shinobu Kocho. She informs him he stands accused of the gravest crime, traveling with a demon. The scene quickly establishes the lethal seriousness of his situation.

The Hashira, the corps' most powerful, reveal their varied, often extreme, views. Kyojuro Rengoku calls for immediate execution. Gyomei Himejima weeps for Tanjiro's soul. Obanai Iguro, draped with his snake, coldly implicates Giyu Tomioka. Meanwhile, Tanjiro ignores their threats, his bruised mind focused only on finding Nezuko. His desperate calls for her are met with harsh silencing.

Giyu Tomioka stands apart from the other Hashira. His silent presence is noted by Mitsuri Kanroji as both cool and isolated. Shinobu Kocho steps forward, offering Tanjiro water and a chance to speak. Her calm demeanor belies the lethal stakes she presents. Tanjiro drinks, pain easing, and gathers his strength to defend his sister.

Tanjiro finds his voice, raw with emotion. He recounts the horror of his family's massacre and Nezuko's transformation. He insists she has never, and will never, eat a human. His passionate declaration, 'She can protect people as a Demon Slayer!' is met with cold disbelief. The Hashira, including Muichiro Tokito who is openly distracted, remain unconvinced by his desperate, anecdotal evidence.

The volatile Sanemi Shinazugawa, Wind Hashira, explodes onto the scene. He carries Nezuko's box, mocking Tanjiro's claims. Without hesitation, he stabs the box repeatedly with his sword. Blood seeps out, and a pained cry echoes. Tanjiro breaks his bonds in a rage, delivering a shocking headbutt to Sanemi that draws blood. He stands over the box, vowing vengeance against any who would harm his sister.

The chaos halts with the arrival of Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the Master. He is announced by his daughters, revealing a face marred by a purple scar. All nine Hashira immediately kneel in unison, their respect absolute. Even Sanemi forces Tanjiro to bow. Kagaya calmly states his sanction of Tanjiro and Nezuko, commanding the Hashira to accept them. This decree generates immediate, vocal protest.

Kagaya's daughter reads a letter from Sakonji Urokodaki, detailing Nezuko's two years without human flesh. It culminates in a solemn oath: if Nezuko ever harms a human, Tanjiro, Urokodaki, and Giyu Tomioka will commit seppuku. This sacrifice deeply moves Tanjiro. Despite this, Sanemi and Kyojuro object. Kagaya then reveals Tanjiro's direct encounter with Muzan Kibutsuji, an unheard-of feat that shifts the Hashira's focus from judgment to critical intelligence.

Kagaya silences the clamoring Hashira with a gesture. He explains Muzan's personal vendetta against Tanjiro, framing the siblings as vital to their war. He appeals to the Hashira to set aside prejudice. Still unconvinced, Sanemi cuts his own arm, releasing his rare 'marechi' blood. He goads Nezuko to emerge from her box and feast, moving into the shade to entice her further. Obanai holds Tanjiro down, adding to the pressure, as the Hashira watch expectantly.

Nezuko emerges from her box. Her eyes are slits, her mouth waters. She stares at Sanemi's bleeding arm, making guttural sounds of profound hunger. The temptation is clear, agonizing. Tanjiro watches, helpless, as his sister fights an internal battle between her demonic instincts and the human will that holds her back.

The episode concludes with a lighter, post-credits scene where the Hashira, in chibified form, reflect on the intense meeting. They joke about Sanemi's headbutt, and Shinobu reveals the group's underlying anxiety about Kagaya's reaction. It's a momentary comedic release after the high tension.
