Mayuri is such a freak for crying over dead samples and yelling at his daughter, but it is the most entertaining part of these filler episodes

The way Kira refused to back down even when he was facing a forbidden weapon made me respect him so much more

Kibune is actually terrifying because he treats everyone like garbage and he is way more obsessed with power than any normal captain

Seeing that giant Reppū boomerang fly around while Kibune was acting like a total lunatic was pretty intense and scary

The whole vibe of this arc is so different from the manga and Kibune being a complete sociopath feels a bit over the top

Kira really grew on me when he stood up to that psycho Kibune and his weird boomerang sword

Kibune sacrificing his own guys just to get ahead is so cold and it makes you want to see Kira take him down for real

Filler arcs can feel so pointless but at least the fight between Kira and Kibune had some actual weight behind it

Mayuri losing his mind over some missing samples and being mean to poor Nemu was the only highlight in this weird filler story

I think Kira showed some great backbone here because he usually feels like he just follows orders without thinking twice. Watching him call out Kibune for being a total snake was great, and that Bakkōtō weapon is super creepy with how it looks like it is eating the user. This arc is kind of goofy, but he made it worth watching

I felt so bad for the 3rd division members because Kibune is such a jerk and Kira taking a stand against him showed he actually cares about them

Kibune is basically just a villain who hates teamwork and it makes the fight feel a bit generic compared to the main hollow stuff but at least Kira is getting some screen time

The way Kira squared up against that arrogant new Shinigami really threw me back to the Soul Society days, highlighting how much heavier his resolve feels now. I honestly didn't expect Wabisuke to look less like a weapon and more like a manifestation of his grim duty, making his quiet defiance even more unsettling to me.

Watching that monstrous boomerang tear through the air while Kibune just completely disregarded his own soldiers just filled me with a deep sense of betrayal; I mean, how could he act like such a disgrace, especially when I think back to the respect and camaraderie that once defined the 3rd Division?

Kira's desperation in this fight with Kibune really makes me wonder if he's trying to make up for not being able to protect his division better during the whole Gin debacle; I can totally see him pushing himself to the limit now. Kibune's callousness towards his own men, after everything the 3rd Division's already been through, just makes my blood boil. It feels like a betrayal of everything a captain should stand for, and I'm itching to see Kira take him down for good.

I was genuinely surprised when Kira, usually so quiet and hesitant, actually stood up for his division; it felt like such a huge moment for him, really showing me he's grown into his captain responsibilities while Kibune just keeps descending into his own twisted agenda, making everything worse for everyone.

I swear, Mayuri being more bothered by his lost experiments than by actual people in danger is just so him, it's infuriating. And honestly, the way he treats Akon sometimes makes me wonder if he even sees him as a subordinate or just another one of his twisted projects.

Ugh, Kibune's arrogance was so palpable, it made my blood boil seeing him treat his squad like dirt. I was practically screaming for Kira to just drop Wabisuke on him and send him straight to the bottom; that guy really deserves to feel the weight of his own hubris.

I'm genuinely feeling for Kira right now, seeing him finally come face to face with someone who just completely goes against everything he believes in; it's a real clash of ideologies that makes the 3rd Division drama so much more intense and surprisingly engaging, especially for a filler arc like this.

I was honestly so taken aback by Mayuri throwing such a dramatic tantrum over his lost hollow samples; it's wild to me how utterly unhinged he gets when his research is messed with, especially when he's just dumping all that frustration on poor Nemu. It really makes me wonder if there's any line he won't cross for the sake of his twisted science, even hurting his own creation.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 172 sits deep in the anime-original Amagai arc, continuing directly from Episode 171's introduction of Squad 3's new power dynamics and the friction between Kira and Kibune. This installment escalates those internal conflicts while laying groundwork for Episode 173's pivot toward the larger Kasumiōji conspiracy, signaling the filler arc's shift from character-driven squad politics to broader Soul Society intrigue.
