📖 SYNOPSIS

A by-the-book constable and a spoiled rich kid — about as compatible as oil and water — Zheng Dongting and Zu Beiqiu get thrown together after their master is assassinated, with things going sideways almost immediately. Zheng Dongting and Zu Beiqiu set out across Tang Dynasty China to track down the killer and find Zu Beiqiu's wife, who vanished a decade ago. Simple enough, except they stumble onto a massacre, get blamed for it, and suddenly the entire martial arts world knows them as the 'Two Evildoers of the Central Plains.' Now every faction they encounter either wants them dead or wants answers they don't have.

This 26-episode ONA is built on the dynamic between its leads — one disciplined, one useless in the most entertaining way — and the mystery keeps layering on complications without losing its sense of humor. The Tang Dynasty setting isn't just window dressing either; it shapes the politics, the fights, and the world they're navigating. The martial arts choreography has real weight to it, and the show knows when to let a scene breathe versus when to throw punches.

If you liked the buddy energy and wuxia world-building of Mo Dao Zu Shi, or the mix of humor and genuine stakes in Heaven Official's Blessing, this hits a similar frequency. It's adapted from a novel, so the plotting is denser than your average donghua, and the wrongful accusation angle gives the whole thing a nice paranoid edge where trust becomes the real currency.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You're into Tang Dynasty martial arts settings with mystery woven into the action
Buddy-duo dynamics appeal to you — Zheng Dongting and Zu Beiqiu's bromance drives the plot
CGI donghua with solid fight choreography across 26 episodes sounds like a good time
You enjoy slow-burn conspiracies where clearing false accusations is the central thread

❌ SKIP IF...

You want nonstop action — this leans heavier on character development and plot buildup
Chinese cultural and wuxia references aren't your thing and might feel inaccessible
You prefer traditional 2D animation — this is fully CGI donghua throughout all 26 episodes
