Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle

Kidnapped by the Demon King, Princess Syalis endures imprisonment by relentlessly pursuing the perfect sleep, much to the chagrin of her demon captors.

📖 SYNOPSIS

Princess Syalis gets snatched by the Demon Lord and thrown into his terrifying castle full of monsters, but she couldn't care less. The thing is, she doesn't care about escaping or being rescued. She just wants a good night's sleep. That's the entire premise of this 12-episode TV series, and it somehow never gets old.

Every episode follows Syalis as she wanders around the demon castle — which she's supposed to be imprisoned in — scavenging materials from increasingly bewildered demons to build the perfect sleeping setup. She'll shear demon sheep for blankets, dismantle ghost shrouds for pillowcases, and casually terrorize creatures ten times her size, all in pursuit of a decent nap. The Demon Lord and his minions slowly go from intimidating captors to basically her reluctant caretakers, and the dynamic is genuinely funny every time.

Doga Kobo nails the animation here. Syalis's sleepy expressions and the demons' exasperated reactions carry so much of the comedy, and the whole thing has this cozy, low-stakes warmth that makes it perfect for winding down. If you liked the reversed dynamic in Hataraku Maou-sama where demons are just trying to get by, or the way Gabriel DropOut turns its premise inside out for laughs, this hits a similar sweet spot. It also shares that same comfortable monster-and-human chemistry you get from Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon. It's comfort food anime with a really good hook.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You love lighthearted comedies that subvert the damsel-in-distress trope into pure absurdity
Doga Kobo's cute character designs and vibrant fantasy settings are your thing
A princess who's basically a chaotic gremlin—crafting pillows and terrorizing demons—sounds hilarious
You enjoy episodic comedy with video game-like quests and crafting woven into every episode

❌ SKIP IF...

You need an overarching plot—each of the 12 episodes repeats the same sleep-quest formula
Action-driven fantasy anime is what you're after—this is pure comedy with zero stakes
Heavy use of panning shots and limited animation shortcuts in comedy scenes would bug you
