Nishino's Blushing Bus Ride
On the bus to the next school trip destination, Nishino quietly cherishes her thoughts of Yamada. Her friend, Suzuki, however, is not so subtle, probing Nishino about her affections. Nishino blushes furiously, denying any special feelings, even as her body language betrays her. Suzuki, with a knowing smirk, chastises her for not being more direct.
The Fickle Love Stone
The students visit a shrine known for a 'love fulfillment stone'. One must walk blindfolded to it, and their love will come true. To everyone's surprise, Yamada confidently volunteers. He navigates the path, guided by shouts, only to collide with Morimoto, who had jokingly placed himself in front of the stone. Yamada's frustration is clear, while Morimoto proudly claims he magnified the blessing.
Observing from Afar
From the temple balcony overlooking the city, Nishino spots Yamada with his classmates. She hesitates, wanting to speak with him but fearing she would interrupt. Suzuki observes her friend's reluctance. Later, Morimoto expresses his romantic hopes for a school trip, while Yamada reacts with annoyance at Morimoto's antics.
A Faltering Approach
Nishino finally gathers her courage, timidly approaching Yamada and touching his arm. She struggles to articulate her thoughts, mumbling that she 'just saw him'. Yamada appears surprised. In a bizarre turn, Yamada then dramatically 'absorbs' Morimoto's 'blessing' from the love stone, much to Nishino's further surprise.
Yamada's Unexpected Message
Later, in their hotel room, Nishino and Suzuki are relaxing. Nishino receives a message from Yamada with photos from the day, which she cherishes. Suzuki, however, is annoyed, believing Yamada should have sent the photos directly to Nishino, not a group chat, to create a proper opening for them. Suzuki's frustration at Yamada's obliviousness is evident.
Lobby Full of Doubts
Just as Suzuki is articulating her irritation, Nishino receives another message from Yamada: he wants to see her in the lobby, now. Nishino is ecstatic, rushing to leave, but Suzuki holds her back, making a point about her own plans. In the lobby, Nishino peeks out to see Yamada casually interacting with several other girls. This immediately fuels her anxieties and insecurities, making her doubt his intentions.
Yamada's Directness
Overwhelmed by her thoughts, Nishino replays the moment Yamada asked for her contact information. She concludes she might have been mistaken about his special interest in her. Suddenly, Yamada appears before her, asking why she didn't just call him out. Nishino is flustered, explaining she saw him with other people. He responds with surprising directness, stating he now wants to speak to her privately.
An Invitation to a Secret
Yamada and Nishino sit together, Yamada showing her pictures of his friends, oblivious to her inner turmoil. An alert on his phone signals his turn for the bath, and he stands to leave. Nishino, desperate for more time, tries to make him stay. Yamada then turns to her, a slight blush on his face, and asks if she would like to go somewhere with him after the school trip, somewhere private. Nishino is utterly overwhelmed, rushing away down the hall, her mind racing with questions about his feelings and her own understanding. A tear rolls down her cheek as she finally admits, aloud, her love for him.
Tani's Inner Turmoil
A flashback reveals Tani's disdain for middle school trips. Now, surrounded by his classmates, he appears bored and unenthusiastic, despite participating in activities like crawling through a temple pillar. Later, during free time, the teacher's leniency provides an opportunity for fun, but Tani's 'limiter kicks in'. He confesses to feeling a 'half-baked self-awareness and inferiority complex', particularly when around Azuma (Suzuki), causing his thoughts to jumble.
Deer Diplomacy
The group visits a park where they encounter numerous deer. Suzuki suggests they buy deer crackers, and the boys agree to split the cost, with Tani reluctantly joining. What begins as a charming interaction quickly devolves into chaos as the deer aggressively demand food. Yamada and Tani are overwhelmed, while Suzuki and Nishino observe, some amused, some unamused.
Bus Ride Antics
On the bus ride back, Suzuki enthusiastically takes on the role of MC, leading cheers and a quiz. Tani, however, is visibly suffering from motion sickness. Suzuki tries to engage him, offering snacks and a 'Russian Roulette Gum'. Tani, despite his discomfort, participates, but reflects that there is 'something different' about Azuma. His annoyance with her playful teasing is clear.
A Moment's Respite
Upon arrival at the hotel, Tani is still battling motion sickness. Yamada attempts to revive him with thoughts of a buffet dinner, but Tani opts for fresh air, asking his friends to go ahead. Suzuki stays behind, offering him her thermos of tea. Tani's attempt to use cola for his motion sickness ends in a comical spill, prompting Suzuki's amazement and his exasperated reaction. She then comments on his usual lack of motion sickness, leading to a moment of shared quiet.
A Detour, Hand in Hand
Suzuki then proposes a detour to Tani, who looks surprised and flustered but agrees. As they walk, their hands slowly meet and intertwine. Suzuki, with a shy, happy smile, asks what is wrong. Tani, glancing at her with a small smile, suggests they take an even longer route back, a clear sign of their mutual, unspoken understanding.
