The episode opens not with a gentle fade, but a brutal, rapid-fire montage of past and future horrors. We see Fushi injured, then dead, his body rent open. Children like Tonari and Satoru appear determined, but images of Mizuha dangling over a chasm and Fushi being grotesquely distorted flash by. It's a dizzying, violent introduction, designed to disorient and unsettle. The brief glimpses of a future battle, with Tonari and her classmates ready for a fight, serve as a grim prelude to the main story.

A serene suburban vista is abruptly shattered by an owl-shaped Nokker, an unexpected herald of danger. It flies with an unsettling, almost casual destructiveness, tearing through buildings. Ordinary people, including what appear to be past vessels of Fushi like a construction worker and a young Bonchien, register confusion rather than immediate panic. A child resembling Pyoran attempts to swat the creature, only to be chased indoors, her initial irritation quickly turning to shock.

Inside the school, the students are in disarray, but Tonari quickly asserts leadership. She directs them to the science lab, not for shelter, but for weaponry. Tonari, Funa, Rei, and Kai raid cabinets, seeking anything "usable." Their banter about salt melting like slugs and Kai's mischievous desire to mix desiccant is a stark contrast to their desperate situation, a fleeting moment of childhood amid encroaching terror. They prepare their makeshift defenses with an almost frantic energy.

Fushi, still in his boy form, regenerates with sickening speed after a previous injury, his body reforming with a grotesque efficiency. His glazed eyes and monstrous maw as he heals are a chilling sight. The students, grunting with effort, push a barricade into place, just as Fushi's arm smashes through a window. The creature's relentless assault is met with Tonari's quick thinking; she throws a cloud of white powder onto Fushi, who bursts into yellow flames.

With Fushi burning, Tonari commands the others to the rooftop, promising to meet them in ten minutes. She uses a clever trick, coating her feet in the chemical mixture to slide across the floor, outpacing the flaming Nokker. The chase up the stairs is frantic, but Tonari shows her true mettle, using her retractable bowstring to ensnare Fushi and pull him close for another dose of the burning powder. Her triumphant cry quickly turns to concern when she realizes Rei is injured.

Tonari's concern for Rei gives way to a desperate act of self-sacrifice. She shoves Rei to safety, tears streaming down her face, as the burning Fushi transforms into a spiky, flaming ball. Tonari, exhausted but defiant, recognizes this as "Rindly's iron ball," a memory of a past threat, before collapsing as the Nokker finally turns to ash. Her relief is short-lived, however, as Fushi begins to regenerate once more from the ashes, his burning form slowly reforming.

Just as Fushi reforms, a formally dressed Bonchien appears, pistol drawn. He fires at Fushi, the bullet passing harmlessly through the regenerating form, prompting Bonchien to realize his pistol is empty. Dropping his weapon, he throws his hands up in surrender, then surprisingly clings to Rei (in Fushi's vessel form), crying apologies. He then shifts to arrogance, boasting he will "play with Fushi until all of Fushi's vessels are gone," surrounded by flowers that bloom from the ground around him.

Rei, embodying Fushi, defiantly throws a seed that blooms into a wall of flowers, revealing her transformation into a knightly form. She engages Bonchien, not in battle, but in a philosophical exchange about desire. Rei (as Fushi) touches Bonchien's hand, and a stone house, complete with a steaming meal and a comfortable chair, appears around him. Bonchien, initially confused, is slowly disarmed by the unexpected warmth and peace, eventually uttering a simple, "Delicious."

A poignant montage of Fushi's past companions, symbolized by various objects, fades into a scene of an older Bonchien with a young boy, Yukki. Bonchien gifts Yukki a fluffy creature before waving goodbye with Yukki's parents. Yukki, left alone, looks at a book with dinosaur skeletons, then is comforted by Bonchien showing him an image of his parents. The parents’ message — "Even if our bodies are apart, our hearts are close" — resonates deeply, a thematic echo of Fushi's own journey.

Huddled in a dark, watery tunnel, Rei, Kai, Satoru, Mizuha, and Obaa are covered in mud and blood, with Fushi among them. Rei clutches Fushi, declaring they "can't afford to be weak" and must escape before dark. Kai's surprising comment about making it home for dinner elicits a shocked reaction from Rei, but he reassures her with a hopeful belief in their ability to become friends with everyone. They are being tested, he insists, but not broken.
