Who knew that was MaoMao was a part time Sherlock Holmes too, her deducting all that is crazy, even when she explained it all I still can’t understand a lick of it. Who knew that they were planning a murder all along, at first I felt pity for the both of them and anger towards the kid, but now, just anger towards them all because of how stupid it is to do all that.

I’m glad the guy got his happy three day course meal. I’m happy that there was a misunderstanding with Jinshi regarding that matter, that was hilarious lol. Another fun, entertaining and well written episode.

A visit back home, what was meant to be a relaxing 3 day vacation gets an unexpected turn when the front door of Mamao’s house is knocked on by a young servant girl. A potentially tragedy in the Pleasure District, the incident shows the inner work of the life of the Consorts.

Another amazing case solved by Maomao. They did a good job on showing everything needed to deduce the case and clearly explaind the deduction that Maomao used. I love how they ended the episode with a humorous exchange by Maomao and Jinshi full of misunderstanding and jealousy.

It gives us a glimpse into what life is like in the “pleasure district” and how it differs from the “Inner Palace,” revealing more details about what Mao Mao did at home. It tackles serious topics without sacrificing humor, which makes it very entertaining to watch.

Haha, the male lead’s reactions in this episode are so funny, especially in the last part. It’s amazing again how the female lead solved what happened in this episode. I’m expecting even more mysterious and exciting events in the next episodes.

This is a great watch! The mystery throughout the episode is so interesting to solve alongside Maomao. No moment is wasted at all, and it feels like it nicely wraps up Maomao's homecoming. Also, Jinshi's face of shock and disappointment had me laughing out loud.

This episode adds more depth to the world, and I appreciate how naturally it’s done. Nothing feels forced or overly explained. I really love how the setting itself feels alive, like it has its own personality. Maomao navigating through it is always interesting to watch. There’s always something new to pick up on. It keeps things fresh without needing big changes.

Got to know where did Maomao get her knowledge in medicine. Her way of describing things are misleading that Master Jinshi frozed. Ahahaha That really made me lol. A perfect FL and ML comedic interaction to end the episode. Hahaha

This episode was a emotional gut-punch 😭. The mystery of the poisoned courtesan and her lover was a brilliant piece of chemical detective work. Analytically, it shows how Maomao uses her medical knowledge to provide solutions. The storytelling here is top-tier. Seeing Jinshi misunderstanding about "night of blissful dreams" was such a icing on the cake! His expressions were hilarious 😂.

Watching Maomao blushing out over a rare plant while everyone else is wondering was peak apothecary plot. She’s out there using her science again man, Seeing Jinshi get all beet red by her was just the cherry on top.

Maomao gets zero rest even on vacation tbh. mystery at the brothel she grew up in and she's already in full detective mode with her dad. And the Jinshi scene at the end? comedy gold, that man is down bad

Episode 8 shows the dark side of wealth and power in the red-light district. Maomao's sharp mind uncovers deception and staged schemes, proving that even in a world of influence and arrogance, careful observation and justice can make all the difference.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming directly after 'Homecoming' in episode 7, which reconnected Maomao with her roots, 'Wheat Stalks' functions as a standalone bridge episode at the season's one-third mark — showcasing Maomao's investigative skills in a civilian setting before she returns to the palace where the larger narrative threads await. It reinforces her adaptability and deepens her backstory, positioning the audience to appreciate the escalating complexity of court intrigue that defines the season's back half.
