Kid and Luffy staring down the entrance to the skull with those red horns on their heads was such a cool shot and it shows how much they both want to be the one taking down Kaido

It was wild how that ominous new music kicked in while we got our first glimpse of the massive skull island, but then my focus just snapped to how epic everyone looked in their new Animal Kingdom get-ups, like they're ready to absolutely wreck some beast pirates. I totally forgot about the danger for a second just admiring everyone's style!

Luffy and Kid racing their ships into the harbor while Law just watches like a tired dad was so funny and then the samurai actually scuttled the fleet to show they have zero plan of coming home

It really hit me hard when the samurai started smashing their own boats because it shows they have zero plans of going home and the resolve they showed made the whole landing feel so much heavier

I definitely felt the tension when the samurai started destroying their own ships, and it was such a heavy moment to realize they really dont expect to survive this raid. It makes the goofy stuff like Sanji freaking out over Namis new outfit and Luffys leather vest feel way more precious before the actual chaos begins in the castle

The pacing felt a bit slow since they spent so much time on the disguises but Usopp taking out the guards with those pop greens was a nice reminder that he actually handles business under pressure

I honestly didn't think the samurai scuttling their own boats would hit me that hard but seeing the look on Namis face while they were just hacking away at the wood was wild and it really shows how much they are willing to lose to get Wano back plus the music during that whole explanation about their sincerity was just perfect

What an insane visual, that whole disguised army just silently marching into the skull like some spectral procession, it totally gave me goosebumps. My heart's pounding thinking about them actually being inside now; I just know things are about to get absolutely wild in there, probably more than any of them expected.

Usopp taking out those guards with the sleeping gas flowers was such a smart move and it shows how much he has grown as a sniper

I was so happy to see Ulti finally show up and her design looks even better than it did in the manga

Seeing Law get so annoyed that Luffy and Kid just ignored the plan and started racing their ships toward the skull was the funniest way to start the raid

Everyone getting those animal kingdom pirate outfits from the magic smoke gate was so cool and Luffy looks weirdly good with those red horns

I was so pumped during that opening assault at the gate because the lighting from those explosions made the Straw Hats look so intimidating. That Red Hawk from Luffy really started things off right

I felt the weight of the samurai's sacrifice when they scuttled their fleet, and it made the whole landing at Onigashima feel so much more serious. The animation during the disguise transformation looked amazing too. Seeing the entire alliance march toward the skull castle in those outfits really set the stage for the massive fight that is about to go down

The animation for that Red Hawk at the start was actually insane, and I definitely saw Usopp using his observation haki before he shot those sleeping flowers

Kinemon really stepped up today and it was crazy watching the samurai wreck their only way off the island just to prove they mean business

I laughed so hard when Sanji lost his mind over the girls in their new outfits because it was some needed comedy before the raid

Luffy promising that massive banquet after they win was such a classic captain move and it actually made the whole alliance look ready for war

That enormous katana resting by the skull on Onigashima instantly made me gasp at the sheer, impossible scale of the island; seriously, who could ever wield such a monstrous blade? The way they handled all the lighting during the night landing, though, was just gorgeous and made everything feel so foreboding and mysterious.

The animal kingdom pirate outfits look great on everyone and Nami's new look is definitely going to be a fan favorite for a long time

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 983 marks the critical transition point in Wano where preparation ends and the Onigashima raid begins — everything from the alliance-building, training, and strategic planning across dozens of prior episodes converges as the crew sets foot on Kaido's stronghold. This follows the alliance's naval approach and emotional rallying, directly setting the stage for the chaotic infiltration and multi-front battles that will define the raid's opening stages. It's the last breath before one of One Piece's most ambitious and prolonged battle arcs fully ignites.
