I think seeing Garp as a pirate is the weirdest thing ever and hearing him shout that pirates are the best gave me such bad whiplash after everything in the main show

Luffy not having his scar looks so wrong and seeing Ann instead of Nami makes the whole episode feel like some weird fever dream that belongs in another timeline

The animation for the final fight with Spiel was really fluid and those speed lines made the gum gum balloon feel way more impactful than the early series episodes

Getting a break from the Wano intensity for this anniversary special was a great call and the art style felt super crisp and modern while keeping that old one shot energy

Her politeness was almost a little *too* much for me, making me seriously long for Nami's sharper edges in this episode. Yet, I couldn't help but smile whenever Balloon showed up; that bird’s chaotic energy is exactly what the crew needs, and I'm excited to see where its antics lead.

It was actually really cool to see how Oda originally pictured the story before it became this massive series. I really liked Ann, and she felt like such a different take on the female lead compared to how Nami acts. Watching Garp be the one to give Luffy the fruit and the hat was wild but it weirdly worked for this version and it was fun too

The way this episode handles Garp is hilarious, especially since he basically encourages Luffy to be a pirate instead of trying to force him into the marines

Garp being a supportive grandpa for once was a weird choice, but it was fun to see him actually encourage the pirate life for a change instead of punching everyone

Luffy being such a jerk to everyone made me laugh and the blue haired girl was a nice change from Nami

The fight scenes looked great and it was cool to see how the creator originally thought of the story before the main manga started

Luffy actually kicking Garp back? I was completely floored when that happened, especially since for so long it's always been the other way around. Seeing him finally get a little payback on his tough grandpa, even in that awesome classic animation style, brought a huge grin to my face; it was such a great nod to their history.

Ann and her bird were such a cool duo this time around; I gotta say, it’s nice to see someone interact with the crew without immediately resortin' to violence like Nami sometimes does. Plus, that bird was genuinely fantastic, I wouldn't mind seeing more of them!

This version of Luffy feels like a totally different person, because he actually seems smart and doesn't want to help anyone unless they have something he wants

It was refreshing to step away from Wano for a second and see these old character designs from before the series even started

Ann using her brain and fighting back without just being a loud character was a huge breath of fresh air for this series

The fight at the end looked so smooth and the animation felt way more polished than the usual episodes we get during the main arcs

The animation during those final fight scenes looked so fluid and the way the camera moved with those speed lines was incredible

Garp as a pirate? Man, that alternate reality concept shown for the anniversary special really blew my mind, I can't even picture what that would've looked like. And Anne's design is just so lovely, she feels like a perfect blend of Nami and Vivi without the usual aggression towards Luffy, which makes me think she would've brought such a different dynamic to the crew.

Anne feels so much more relaxed than Nami, but watching her fight with that bird was definitely better than expected

Watching Luffy deal with a magic user like Spiel was a cool change of pace since he had more of an attitude in this story

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 907 arrives as a special detour during the early stages of the Wano Country arc, temporarily stepping away from the main storyline for a standalone celebration of One Piece's creative origins. The episodes surrounding it continue the Wano narrative, so nothing plot-critical is missed by skipping — or gained by watching — in terms of ongoing story progression. Think of it as a palate cleanser between Wano's escalating stakes.
