Usopp talking big and meaning none of it until it actually matters — that's his entire arc in one episode. The way the show frames his lies as kindness reframes him completely. Instant favourite.

That is just funny! I don’t know what it is about Usopp, but his jokes are always hilarious and never fail to make me laugh. Although there is something about him that just makes you want to slap him on occasion, like the part where he pretends to eat people. Classic!

Usopp’s introduction felt like a whole arc on its own, and it was a great setup to explore his character more. He might seem a bit annoying at first, but you can already tell he’s someone you’ll eventually warm up to as the story progresses.

Pre-timeskip Luffy and Zoro were so much more hilarious, especially their encounter with Usopp—it was comedy gold. I still can’t believe Luffy, of all people, remembered Yasopp talking about his son. 🤣 That moment made everything even better.

A charming introduction that balances humor with underlying vulnerability. It sets up emotional stakes subtly.

usopp's introduction is pretty charming with the whole village liar schtick and meeting kaya, but it's mostly setup for the arc ahead so nothing really grabs you yet, classic early one piece pacing where you're just getting the pieces in place

It’s The Boy Who Cried Wolf! Usopp’s character is really interesting, especially with this introduction. Lol. It was surprisingly wholesome and hilarious. Adding him to the trio would make things even more chaotic, and honestly, I’m already loving the energy!

It is so heartbreaking that Robin finally met her mom after all those years only for the island to get blown up immediately and they barely got any time together

The way the Five Elders just ordered the entire island to be erased because of some research is terrifying and it makes the government look like the actual villains

I was crying so hard when Saul told Robin she would find friends on the sea someday, and his laugh is the only thing keeping me together right now.

The scholars desperately tossing those precious books into the lake just to keep them safe from the flames really got to me. I just kept thinking about all the invaluable knowledge they were trying to preserve, even as their entire world burned down around them.

I can not believe they just shot Clover like that while he was still talking and it made me so angry to see that Spandine guy laughing about it

The Five Elders are absolutely terrifying for ordering a total massacre just because some people wanted to read old rocks. It makes the whole government look like monsters

Archaeologists jumping into the lake to save the library archives was so moving, because it shows how much they cared about the future of history

I thought Usopp was just annoying at first and then he mentioned his dad is Yasopp so that connection to Shanks makes me like him way more plus seeing him try to cheer up Kaya was actually sweet

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming off the high-energy Buggy the Clown confrontation in Orange Town, episode 9 downshifts into the Syrup Village Arc, trading combat for character building. This is the arc's opening chapter, introducing Usopp — a future crew staple — and establishing the village setting where the next stretch of episodes will unfold. It also sets in motion the crew's search for a proper ship, a narrative thread that becomes central to what follows.
