QUICK TAKES

The animation during those quick exchanges in the mirror world felt so much smoother this week and it made the anticipation for Snakeman feel even bigger

Luffy finally starting to see the future like Katakuri does is such a cool way to show his growth and he is ready for Snakeman now

Katakuri actually letting Luffy power up Snakeman felt so wild to me, like he *needed* this challenge more than just winning; it's almost like he saw something in Luffy's resilience he respected. My guy clearly could've just ended it, but he actively chose to push his own limits against someone who could finally keep up, which makes the whole fight feel even more legendary and earned.

Having Katakuri just stand there and wait for Luffy to transform was amazing because it shows he actually respects him as a fighter now instead of just doing a job for Big Mom

Seeing Luffy get the hang of observation haki while he is getting pummeled is classic and the transition into Gear Fourth at the very end had me yelling

Those Germa 66 scenes gave them some much needed screen time to show off their powers while the main focus stayed on the mirror world battle

It is wild that Katakuri is becoming such a favorite just because he values a fair fight more than his family orders and that nod he gave Luffy was everything

Luffy finally starting to see the future and dodging those crazy donut attacks had me shouting and that Snakeman reveal at the very end was worth the wait

Flampe, oh my god, I just wanted her to get out of the way! My excitement for this huge fight was absolutely deflating as her stupid needles kept interfering; it felt so incredibly cheap for what should have been a legendary clash of titans.

When Luffy started glimpsing the future, with Rayleigh's wise words in the background, I literally leaned forward, feeling my excitement build for how much stronger he's about to get. It felt like a genuine evolution for him, not just some random new trick.

Took way too many episodes to get to this point but Snake Man actually looks incredible and the speed is much more interesting than the bulky bounce man form

The stakes feel so high now that both of them are literally at their limit and just refusing to go down

Katakuri stabbing himself last episode and now standing there waiting for Luffy to go all out shows he just wants a fair fight more than anything else

The way Luffy punches keep accelerating and changing direction makes the fight so much more frantic and watching Katakuri try to keep up with his future sight is intense

Luffy just pulled out Snakeman and the speed on those punches is actually insane he finally looks like a match for Katakuri

Katakuri realizing he is fighting for himself and not just his family gave him so much more personality and his stance while waiting for Snakeman showed how much he values this duel

Watching Katakuri shift from a loyal brother to someone fighting for his own pride is the biggest change we have seen in him this whole arc

I couldn't believe how fluid the movement got during that final sequence and I think Snake Man might be my favorite gear form so far

You can really tell the animation budget went into this episode, especially when Luffy starts bouncing his fists off the air to catch Katakuri off guard

The moment Luffy called out Snakeman had me leaning in and seeing Katakuri actually look excited for the next round made the whole episode feel special

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 869 sits at the climax of the Luffy vs. Katakuri confrontation, directly building on the escalating intensity of Episode 868 where the fight reached a fever pitch. This episode functions as the critical bridge where Luffy's Observation Haki development becomes the focal point, setting up Episode 870's reveal of a new Gear Fourth form — making it essential viewing for understanding the payoff that follows.
