pudding switching her personality every five seconds, while they try to bake this cake, is the only thing keeping the mood light right now

jinbe surfing through the wave was such a massive moment but the animation felt a bit flat for something that was supposed to be a major highlight

jinbe being the only person not losing his mind while big mom tries to drown the sunny shows he is exactly what this crew lacks

I finally understand why the crew needs a helmsman and Jinbe surfing that wave inside the green room was incredible

katakuri is actually terrifying and watching luffy get stuck in his future sight predictions makes the fight feel so desperate

Big Mom casually riding that gigantic wave with Perospero's help was such a wild sight, I couldn't decide if I should be amazed by her sheer power or just feel awful for the Straw Hats stuck in her path; it makes me wonder what else she's truly capable of.

the fight between luffy and katakuri is dragging on forever and it feels like they are just stalling before gear fourth finally happens

I never really thought about how much a dedicated helmsman could change things for the straw hats but jinbe navigating that wave was a total game changer and it makes me so happy to see him showing everyone his worth and seeing him stay so calm while big mom is literally towering over them is just something else entirely

My jaw dropped seeing Big Mom just *surf* that giant wave like it was nothing, and when she snagged the Sunny, I honestly thought it was over for real this time. That woman is terrifyingly relentless, it makes me wonder how Luffy's ever gonna shake her.

You have to feel for Luffy getting tossed around like a ragdoll by Katakuri because every single punch he throws just gets blocked or dodged by that mochi power

It is hilarious and creepy at the same time hearing the souls in the cannonballs cry out as they hit the water while Big Mom is just losing her mind in the background

When that monstrous wave crashed over the Sunny, I totally thought it was over for them, but Jinbei pulling off that escape was just incredible. My mind is still blown by how he found that one opening, and honestly, seeing him finally join officially just feels like the crew is complete now.

Katakuri just completely manhandling Luffy makes the whole situation feel so hopeless and you really start to wonder how anyone is supposed to beat a guy who sees the future

Jinbei just casually saving everyone by driving a ship through a literal wave was incredible and I am so glad the Straw Hats finally have a real helmsman because that green room move was so clever

Sanji showing off his cooking skills while Pudding goes through her usual identity crisis is fine, but the real star of the show was definitely Jinbei handling the rudder like a legend

I honestly didn't think a ship could survive a wave that size, but Jinbei proving his worth as the helmsman is exactly what I thought the Straw Hats needed and that green room visual was beautiful while Katakuri is still terrifying though because he is just countering everything I see Luffy try and the pacing feels a bit slow, but that escape scene made up for it

Big Mom was terrifying when she summoned that massive wall of water and candy and it really felt like the Straw Hats were done for until Jimbei took over

Katakuri just keeps beating Luffy into the ground and it is getting hard to watch him take all those hits without finding a way to fight back yet

I was holding my breath the entire time they were inside that wave and Jimbei is easily the best thing to happen to this crew in years because no one else could have handled the helm like that while Luffy is busy getting wrecked by Katakuri in the mirror world and I just hope the ship actually survives this whole mess

It was pretty cool to see the Green Room effect in action, especially since it seemed like the Straw Hats were finally about to be swallowed by the sea

EPISODE CONTEXT

Deep in the Whole Cake Island arc, this episode picks up with Luffy separated from the crew and locked into his fight against Katakuri, leaving the rest of the Straw Hats to fend for themselves against Big Mom's relentless pursuit. Episode 853 shifts focus to the crew's desperate escape across hostile waters, bridging the gap between Luffy's showdown and the next wave of confrontations. It sets the stage for escalating tension as the arc barrels toward its climax, with the crew's survival far from guaranteed.
