Asa and Makio's relationship isn't as straight forward as it seemed, and it slowly being showed to the viewer. Both are awkward, and in the process of healing, uncovering more about themselves and others. It's really written well in this episode how Makio cares for Asa subtly.

It's nice to see the difference in personalities between Makio and Asa and how they deal with the matter of their own feelings. I especially like it that Makio communicated with Asa instead of leaving the latter confused and misunderstanding the situation. Another nicely done ep.

This ep implied more on the character's emotional development Highlighted Asa and Maki were polar opposites to each other when it comes to communicating and connecting. The two were physically close but mentally and emotionally, they differ. Hence, the direction was impeccable.

Asa’s pure-hearted amazement at a ‘real adult’ is so cute~ This episode highlights the unconventional bond between Asa and Makio, and the quiet gap between them caused by their complicated feelings. Honestly, their open communication almost feels like therapy for loneliness.

What this show gets right is communication. Characters try to talk things out, even when they don't really know how. It's the most emotionally honest thing this show does, and it does it every episode. The most grounded slice of life I've seen in a while.

A lighter episode with Asa starting her new school year, but still a lot of bonding between her and Makio and trying to handle their differences. Makio is clearly someone who finds it better to work in isolation, while Asa is quite sociable.

Okay.. I won't lie, this episode REALLY hit close to home. I was sobbing that second half. In happier news though, I loved seeing Asa already making new friends at her high school and the first meeting between Asa and Kasamachi was soo cute. Asa sure does love.. love hehe.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at the early-middle stretch of a 13-episode season, 'Cower' deepens the emotional groundwork laid by Episode 3's 'Discard,' where Makio and Asa first began navigating the friction of cohabitation. This episode pushes further into their individual internal struggles and the distance still separating them, functioning as essential character development before Episode 5, 'Decide,' where the trajectory of their relationship appears poised for a meaningful turning point.
