It's crazy to see how brutal the fight was just to get a spot for the mission! Gabimaru is really scary and powerful. I also like that we get to know more about Sagiri's past here. I'm so curious about what's going to happen on the island!

This episode feels more intense as the tension starts to build. The tension starts to build. The atmosphere and mystery make it interesting to keep watching, overall I like it, and I am looking for the next episode as well

The start felt a bit dark because of the execution scenes, and we listen to Sagiri’s inner doubts. But it got more fun once the criminals were gathered together. The scene had a lighter mood, and watching their fight was really fun.

Sagiri gripping her executioner's blade was intense. Animation on her precise stance and blade glow crisp af. Vibe disciplined and conflicted. Her sense of justice mixed with duty hit me hard, super compelling character intro.

Gabimaru continues to impress with his cleverness and calm under pressure. Sagiri shows her confidence and skill, which makes her really interesting. I loved how the tension of the island kept every moment exciting and engaging.

This greatly dehumanizes the criminals so we don't feel as bad when they are brutally unnalived. Blood really gets flowing here, but the art is impeccable. We get to know more about Sagiri's past and her reasoning, and you see that despite the brave façade, she's haunted by fear.

Insanely awesome action though really gory. Alot of moral discussions were made in this episode and it was pretty unexpected how things turned out this early in the series

The fact that this is developing into a combat royale with philosophy, trauma, and repercussions makes it clear from away that it is not just a straightforward hack-and-slash animation.
This episode makes it clear:
This is not a “main character carries everyone”

Damn, the gore in it isn’t for the weak. Love the depiction of truth in her sword, notice how Sagiri’s body was clean in the sword, whereas Gabimaru’s was drenched in blood? Also, new characters dropped.

Episode 2 showcases a great way to narrow down the number of characters. The fights on the island are also an effective way to introduce them and highlight how strong they are. The level of violence is much more intense than in the first episode, so viewer discretion is advised.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Following the premiere's introduction of Gabimaru and Sagiri, this second episode widens the lens to assemble the larger cast through a deadly selection process — the critical bridge between setup and the journey to Shinsenkyo. It deepens backstories and moral stakes before the group departs, meaning everything established here directly feeds into the expedition that will dominate the remaining eleven episodes. This is the foundation episode for the ensemble dynamic that defines the rest of the season.
