the tonal range here is genuinely impressive. within a single episode this manages to evoke the mood of a mystery procedural, a psychological thriller, and a supernatural drama simultaneously without any of it feeling forced or incoherent.

watching the way L thinks in real time is genuinely one of the most entertaining things this show does. every exchange just highlights how extraordinary his mind is and i am completely obsessed with him at this point

that close call had me physically cover my mouth. the second a specific new character walked on screen the tension just SPIKED immediately and didn't let up for the rest of the episode. absolutely brutal viewing in the best possible way.

L getting close to the police force!! Can't wait for the new team we're gonna get.
Things will get insane with these deductive reasoning skills from all around. We're getting a new interesting character (the FBI officer's fiancée)...hope she plays a big role in the story!

Light’s character development is noticeable and the episode subtly shows his changes. Watch if you’re interested in his “downfall” if I say so.

The first introduction of L was quite peculiar. The task force personnel finally understand L’s vision behind his carefulness. Although a bit sceptical, Light comes in contact with a woman who was claiming to reveal useful info about the Kira case.

Uh oh, Light encountered a constraint. But he must be thanking god for encountering it hahaha this episode is more an introductory for L's appearance and Rey's fiancee investigation. Do not have much mind-bending acts of L and Light like the other episode. But still a good watch for the story build-up.

Now L showed his faced and with the help of the police, he will try to outwit Light. Meanwhile, Light may have met the key who can help him, too.

Finally, we are able to see L. This episode delivers intense psychological tension as Light Yagami meets Naomi Misora. Their conversation feels like a silent battle of intelligence where one mistake could expose everything. It shows how dangerous Light’s calm manipulation can be.

Very good plot for this episode! Ray Penber’s fiancée was cautious, but not cautious enough... So sorry for her. The tension keeps you on edge, and it really drives home the lesson: in this world, you can’t trust anyone.

L finally shows his face and he’s... dangerous. . Light trying to play it cool while being watched is just nerve-wracking. This is literally high-stakes chess now.

It feels like both Light and L are walking on glass now, smiling, being nice, calculating but if either of them were to make one wrong move everything would get completely broken apart. This is no longer just a war of brains. It’s a battle of endurance.

This episode feels tense in a quieter way. Both L and Light are deep in evaluation mode, carefully measuring each move. The introduction of a new character adds another layer of intensity, and you can sense the balance slowly starting to shift.

Light runs into someone who could expose everything and the way he handles it is deeply unsettling. two sides of the same coin and neither is slowing down 💀

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming off the fallout of episode 5's escalation with the FBI agents, 'Unraveling' introduces a dangerous new wrinkle that directly threatens Light's careful facade—raising the personal stakes significantly in the early investigation arc. This is episode 6 of 37, still firmly in the opening phase where the L vs. Light dynamic is being constructed brick by brick. It bridges directly into 'Overcast,' where the consequences of this encounter force Light into increasingly desperate strategic territory.
