It almost felt like they were trying to soften the scene, but Bleach isn't about softening things when the stakes are this high.

When Rudobon finally released, I couldn't believe how goofy he looked, totally deflating any menace he had before – it actually made me question if he was ever meant to be a real challenge. Then, the immediate jump to that intense battle on the roof felt so abrupt, like the animators just couldn't decide what kind of tension they wanted me to feel in this episode.
