i was confused about who ashido was at first but his mask and the way he fights those giant menos made the detour at least watchable

this whole forest thing feels like such a drag when we were just getting into the arrancar stuff and getting back to the main story can not happen fast enough

having a soul reaper like ashido stuck in hueco mundo for ages is pretty cool and the way he survives among the menos is interesting

I felt so bad watching Ashido stay behind in that forest while the others got away and he really deserved a better ending than just being stuck there alone again

Ichigo pulling out Zangetsu to clear a path through all those Menos looked great and the animation held up well for a side story

Ashido Kano really feels like he belongs in the actual manga, so it is a shame his story ends in this weird filler gap

This whole Forest of Menos thing feels like such a drag when the stakes are supposed to be high and the group is just wandering around underground

Vecuness is such a creepy looking Hollow and seeing Rukia step up to handle business after Ashido got sidelined was the highlight

I am honestly so conflicted because Ashido is one of the best side characters they have introduced in a while, but I just want to see the Arrancar fight already. The pacing is totally ruined by this forest mini-arc and it makes it hard to stay invested in the Hueco Mundo mission when we keep taking these long detours for filler stuff

Ashido losing his mask to save Rukia was a heavy moment for a character who probably will not show up again after this arc ends

Rukia feeling so guilty about Ashido getting hurt really got to me and it shows how much she cares about people she just met

Seeing the million Menos was cool but the group is in the middle of a huge arc and stopping for three episodes of filler feels like a mistake

That lore about how Hollows turn into Espada actually makes a lot of sense and it is surprising to get real info in a filler episode like this

I really wanted to get back to the main story and this filler is killing the momentum even if Ashido is a cool character

The way Ashido chose to stay in the forest to let the others escape was actually pretty heavy for a filler episode. It feels different knowing Kubo wanted him in the manga, but ran out of time. Rukia looks like she is finally finding her footing again as a fighter, and that scene where they were running for the exit was intense.

even if this is technically filler it feels way more important than usual and Ashido is way too cool for staying behind in the forest alone

Rukia refusing to leave him at first really shows her warrior spirit and the music during her big fight was honestly so good

I can't believe Ashido spent centuries down there only to give up his chance at leaving, that moment with Rukia really got to me

Ashido deciding to stay behind just so the others could get out of the forest shows how much of a real hero he is

the forest of menos is actually scary and seeing the ceiling come down while Ashido fought off all those monsters was a lot

EPISODE CONTEXT

This episode wraps up the Forest of Menos mini-arc that began with the introduction of Ashido Kanō and his backstory in the preceding episode, bringing the group's detour through this treacherous part of Hueco Mundo to a decisive close. It sits within the larger Hueco Mundo invasion storyline, roughly at the midpoint of Bleach's full run. The resolution here directly feeds into Episode 150, 'Oath! Back Here Alive Again,' where the group pushes deeper into enemy territory and refocuses on their core rescue mission.
