This episode was pretty good! It features the first round with team B, featuring an incredible battle and intense fight choreography. I really thought they were about to lose, and the tension was so peak here.

This show did such a good job at ragebaiting with Xerx. Like I was as pissed as Asta, he did NOT have to hit Asta?? What was the point of harming his own teammate.

Asta and Mimosa's teamwork was pretty amazing! Every time Mimosa is shown, even briefly, I find her even more charismatic. She's surprisingly versatile and incredible within combat.

zora using asta as bait was actually genius and it really shows how different he is from any other magic knight in the show

mimosa finally getting some offensive spells was my favorite part since she is usually just stuck in the back healing everyone

I hated how stiff the animation looked during the counter trap scene, because that should have been way more impactful.

I can't believe how much Mimosa has changed since the start, and seeing her take control of the battlefield with those flower guide posts was definitely the highlight for me

The way the studio handled Asta swinging his sword looked like a cartoon and it really took away from the tension of the tournament start

Zora basically carried that whole fight while pretending to nap and his trap magic is actually insane for a tournament like this

Zora is basically a tactical genius for how he baited that entire team into his trap without even moving from his spot

It was a total shock to see Zora reflect that attack with even more power, especially after he spent the whole time acting like he didn't care about the exam

Seeing Xerx use that massive counter trap was such a cool moment even if the animation slowed it down way too much compared to what I expected from the manga

Mimosa stepping up with that magic cannon flower made me so happy because she usually just stays in the back healing everyone and I think she actually trained hard for this exam and Zora is still a total mystery though his mask is super creepy and his trap magic is unlike anything else we have seen so far

I felt so hyped when Mimosa pulled out those new offensive moves instead of just healing everyone from the sidelines, and that flower cannon looked great. The animation felt a bit shaky when Zora used his counter magic though. It was kind of stiff compared to how cool it looked in the manga but at least the strategy behind the traps was fun to watch.

I honestly did not expect Mimosa to pull out a giant flower cannon and just start blasting people

The animation for Asta reflecting those attacks looked so weird and clunky but Kirsch is hilarious for being that obsessed with his own beauty

Mimosa was the real MVP of this match for guiding Asta and using that magic flower guide post to find the enemy

Kirsch is so annoying with his whole beauty obsession thing and it made me feel bad for Mimosa having him as a brother

The pacing felt a bit off because they kept repeating the same jokes over and over and it started to get a bit annoying after the third time Kirsch talked about beauty

The repetitive jokes about beauty from Kirsch were kind of draining and they definitely dragged the pacing down a bit

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at episode 74 of 170, this lands squarely in the early rounds of the Royal Knights Selection Exam arc, following the tournament's kickoff in the previous episode and establishing the competitive stakes that will escalate through subsequent matchups. The exam serves as both a proving ground for Asta's growth and a pipeline into the larger Royal Knights arc, where the assembled team will face threats far beyond tournament rules. These early bouts are seeding rivalries, alliances, and power reveals that pay off significantly down the line.
