Mereolena's talk with Noelle was unexpectedly rich in emotional material. I only realized after that scene that Noelle never truly got to know her mother! Also, the two look way too alike, it's almost uncanny..

Oh! The hot spring peeping segment was just a little bit unnecessary.. Very fanservice. While it wasn't purely filler the funny moments felt like it.

Damnn, Asta's new magical abilities were so cool! Both visually and in concept. When it was first introduced in the Witch Village, it looked so OP! I thought it would've been harder for him to unlock the ability. (given the queen was the one who helped that time)

I think Mereoleona punching Asta out of the sky was the best part of the whole training session and her mentioning Noelle mother made me want to see more of Acier past

The hot springs peeping stuff with Yami and the Crimson Lions felt really weird and out of place after such a cool moment with Asta power up

Asta using Ki to pull that anti magic out on purpose shows how much he learned from Yami and it looks way better than him just getting lucky during a fight

yami telling the boys to peep was actually so gross and it really messed up his character because he usually feels like a better mentor than that weirdness

i was so hyped seeing asta finally pull out the black form on his own by using ki and it shows how far he has come since training with yami

Asta using ki to sense the energy inside his own body was such a brilliant way to handle his growth and seeing him fly past Yuno even for a second felt like a huge win for everyone who has been rooting for him since the start even if the animation on the black form looked a bit flat and weird compared to the manga art

Asta's black flames felt a bit flat compared to the manga art and I wish the animation had more punch to it

Noelle finding out her mother was basically the only person Mereoleona couldn't beat was incredible, and it changes her whole perspective on her family

Mereoleona is basically a force of nature and she makes every scene better with her wild training style

Those stories about Acier Silva being the Steel Warrior Princess are huge for Noelle and it explains why her siblings are such jerks to her

I thought Asta using ki on himself to pull out the anti-magic was such a smart move and it felt great to see him finally get that form under control for a bit

The visuals for the black energy while Asta concentrated on the flow instead of just raging out was a great change

Training at a volcano is extreme but Mereoleona is a total powerhouse, and her methods might be insane but they definitely get results for the squad

Mereoleona is easily the best thing to happen to this show, and her talk with Noelle about Acier actually made me care about the family history

That hot springs bit with Yami trying to get them to peep was so awkward and it really ruined the flow after such a cool training sequence

Hearing Mereoleona talk about Acier gave Noelle a real purpose and the visual of them looking exactly alike was such a strong touch

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at episode 72 of 170, this lands squarely in the buildup phase toward the Royal Knights Selection Test—a major competitive arc that will reshape team dynamics. The previous episode established Mereoleona as a force of nature and set the training gauntlet in motion; 'Saint Elmo's Fire' capitalizes on that momentum by deepening character abilities and relationships before the stakes escalate significantly. The groundwork laid here for Asta, Noelle, and the broader cast pays dividends in the high-pressure battles ahead.
