Noelle looks so stressed about her magic but seeing her finally step up to lead everyone into the underwater temple makes this beach trip feel like actual progress instead of just random fanservice

The new opening music has big shoes to fill after Black Rover and my ears are still adjusting to the different sound but the visuals of everyone at the beach are actually pretty sharp

It is wild that Yami literally buried his entire squad in the sand like that, but watching Asta and Magna try to outrun his temper is always the best part of these breaks

I feel so bad for Gordon sitting all alone in that dark base while everyone else is playing in the sand and Yami is being a menace

The development with Noelle and Asta at the end was great! Their relationship has remained unchanging for the longest time because of the whole thing with Eye of the Midnight Sun, so watching Noelle actually have a heart to heart with Asta was heartwarming.

This episode could be classified under the filler category, also lots of fanservice, particularly with Noelle and Vanessa. It's your standard beach episode unfortunately. It only starts getting somewhat good at around the last 1/3, where they actually do their mission

The Gordon disrespect is crazy man, what did he even do

Noelle talking about her family and never going to the beach before was so sad but seeing the Black Bulls treat her like actual family now is great

This mission to the underwater temple sounds dangerous and it is a big deal that Noelle is the only one who can get them there

It is a bit of a slow start to the new arc, but the setup with the magic stones and the temple makes it feel important

Everyone losing their minds when Magna walked out in that tiny loincloth was a hilarious way to start the beach trip

Poor Gordon just wants to be included in the beach fun and everyone keeps forgetting he is even there while they play in the sand

I love how the new ending theme is basically just a high school alternate universe and it makes me want a full spin off series with all of them as students

The way this episode set up the Seabed Temple arc felt a bit slow since it only covered one chapter but seeing the Black Bulls just hanging out was worth it

Seeing Grey use transformation magic for once was interesting because the actual power was finally visible instead of just the usual smoke cloud

I think the fan service was a bit much but seeing Vanessa and the girls just relaxing was a nice change of pace from the fighting

Charmy losing her mind over Yuno at the beach made me laugh so much and her appetite is still the most impressive thing in this entire show

That new opening animation looks incredible but honestly the music is a step down from Black Rover and it is going to take a long time to get used to it

The new opening song is okay but it is not Black Rover even if the visuals look cool with all the focus on Noelle

The comedy in this one was on point, and I loved seeing everyone just act like idiots at the beach for a while. Magna in that loincloth was way too much, but Yami burying the boys in the sand was the best bit for me. It is nice seeing Noelle get some actual focus because her past with her family is pretty rough

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 40 lands in the transitional space between the conclusion of the Black Bulls' latest mission briefing in 'Three-Leaf Salute' and the beginning of the Seabed Temple arc, one of the series' more significant early storylines. This episode uses its beach setting to establish Noelle's personal stakes heading into that arc, where her magical growth becomes essential. At roughly the quarter mark of 170 episodes, it's a deliberate calm-before-the-storm installment that builds squad chemistry before the difficulty ramps up.
