513oom★★★☆☆AnimeSpace Symphonic Poem Maetel: Galaxy Express 999 Side Story
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Maetel abandoned her mother and her home planet, the doomed and frozen La Metal, where people must become cyborgs to survive. When she is beckoned to return, her options seem slim: follow her mother's path (and with it a robot mind and the contempt of all humans), or run away and fight with humans against the machines. Yet, she is not without comrades and defenders. If she can accept the friendship of beings of metal who desire peace, and oppose those who think being made of flesh and blood is enough to make one human, she may still have a chance to find her own path. joshuamortel030★★★★☆VerifiedEP 13I thought this was a solid way to end the series. It brought together a lot of what the story had been building toward without making everything feel too perfect. The ending had a nice balance to it and felt fitting for the journey. Worth watching for a finale that gives a good conclusion while still keeping the feeling of the series.
joshuamortel030★★★★★VerifiedEP 12I wasn’t expecting this one to hit as hard as it did. The emotional moments felt natural, and I liked that the episode didn’t drag them out too much. It felt like a lot of things were finally coming together after all the buildup. Worth watching if you’ve made it this far and want to see how the story continues from here.
joshuamortel030★★★★☆VerifiedEP 11This one gave a character who was mostly in the background before a chance to stand out more. I liked seeing a different side of them, and the emotional parts worked without feeling stretched out. The small details from earlier episodes also made the payoff feel more satisfying. Worth watching if you’ve been following the little hints and character moments throughout the series.
joshuamortel030★★★★☆VerifiedEP 10I had a lot of fun with this one. The action kept coming, and I liked that it didn’t spend too much time slowing things down. The pacing felt right, and the episode did a good job keeping the intensity up without becoming hard to follow. I’d say this is one of the strongest episodes so far if you’ve been waiting for more action.
joshuamortel030★★★★☆VerifiedEP 9I liked the change of pace in this one. It gave the story some room to breathe and spent more time showing the world around the characters. It was a quieter episode, but I thought the extra details helped make the setting feel more interesting. Worth watching if you enjoy the world-building parts of the series.
joshuamortel030★★★★☆EP 8Things got more serious here, and I liked how the episode handled the heavier parts without making them feel too much. The character moments were some of the best so far, and I also noticed the animation looked better. It felt like an episode that really moved things forward. Worth watching for the strong character moments and the better animation.
joshuamortel030★★★★☆EP 7Things started feeling more serious in this episode, and I liked how the story kept raising the stakes. The character moments stood out more this time, and I felt like the conflict had more weight behind it. It felt like the series was building toward something bigger without rushing things. A solid one if you’re enjoying the direction the story has been taking.
joshuamortel030★★★★☆VerifiedEP 6The story took a slower and more atmospheric route this time, and I liked the change of pace. It felt different from the episodes before it, giving more room for the mood and themes to stand out. It didn’t drag either, which helped make the slower moments work better. Worth checking out if you like the more atmospheric parts of the series.
joshuamortel030★★★★☆VerifiedEP 5This one was more focused on the characters and their thoughts rather than big action scenes. I liked how it took its time exploring the more personal side of the story, even if the pace was slower. It gave me more to think about and made the episode feel important for what comes next. Worth watching if you enjoy the more psychological side of the series.
joshuamortel030★★★★☆VerifiedEP 4I liked how this episode brought a different energy after the heavier ones before it. The balance between action and quieter moments worked well, and the lighter scenes helped make it feel less serious. It was a nice change of pace while still keeping the story moving. Worth checking out if you liked the mix of action and character moments.
joshuamortel030★★★★☆VerifiedEP 3This one felt more like a setup episode, but I liked how it continued building the bigger story. It spent more time developing the situation and showing where things were heading. Nothing too big happened, but I still found it interesting enough to keep watching. A good episode to sit through if you want to see the story keep building.
joshuamortel030★★★★☆VerifiedEP 2The tension built up faster in this episode, which made it more interesting to watch. I enjoyed the improved pacing compared to the first episode, and I liked how the character conflicts started to stand out more. It felt like the story was finally starting to move. Worth watching if you want a faster-paced continuation.
joshuamortel030★★★★☆VerifiedEP 1This first episode had a slow start, but it worked well. The animation looked clean, and the mood was set right away without feeling rushed. It took its time building the atmosphere. If you don't mind a slower start, this one is worth trying.
mycelium_andy★★☆☆☆VerifiedEP 13A boring meaningless finale for a boring meaningless series. I'll give it a point for ending on the train just like it started because I do enjoy the circular nature of those kinds of endings. But to be honest the series lacks a purpose and emotional core for this ending to actually feel deserved. As I've said in a previous episode, it's a product of its time and I'm not particularly a fan of this kinds of old works.
mycelium_andy★☆☆☆☆VerifiedEP 12Everything is too convenient to build any sort of tension during the battle, failing to keep any engagement with the viewer. The characters also go back and forth between ship and planet aimlessly until the plot needs them to be active.
mycelium_andy★★☆☆☆VerifiedEP 11We don't have nearly enough character development to call the ending of this episode deserved at all. It tries to be all emotional and it fails. This series is way too eager to discard any character for any reason. Also the music tries to be way too epic for what the animation is capable of.
