QUICK TAKES

The pacing was definitely a bit slow during the boat scenes, but seeing the trio finally reunite to wreck those ships was the best way to start the raid

I was so mad watching Kanjuro laugh at everyone while poor Momonosuke was screaming for help and the scabbards looked so defeated until the Sunny finally broke through the fog

Kanjuro's ink clone trick truly blew me away; it finally made sense why his drawings looked so terrible before, connecting the dots on his whole act. But seriously, how could he betray the Scabbards like that, it's just so infuriating and I'm left wondering what his true motivations even are.

Kinemon trying to row with his hands bleeding while thinking about the traitor was so sad and Kanjuro is a total monster for acting like their friend for twenty whole years

My stomach clenched watching Kinemon sob after Kanjuro revealed himself, I mean, that betrayal just felt so personal, how could he do that? But then *boom*, Luffy, Law, and Kid just appear like they own the place, and I actually cheered out loud seeing them ready to throw down.

Kid's exasperated shouts at Luffy, even as they were collectively wiping out that whole fleet, was honestly the perfect mood shift I needed after all the heavy betrayal earlier. Their chaotic energy just makes me smile, and it really solidified for me that these guys would probably still be squabbling like this even if the world was ending, which is kinda reassuring, somehow.

Wait, Kanjuro was a drawing the *whole* time?! My jaw seriously dropped when that was revealed, especially after seeing Kinemon sacrifice so much, rowing until his hands bled for someone who wasn't even truly there with them. I just can't imagine how betrayed they're gonna feel.

The sight of the Sunny coming through the fog was a total savior moment for the scabbards and the music made it even better

I cannot believe Kanjuro really did that to everyone and he just laughed like it was all a joke while Momonosuke was crying for help and then Luffy finally shows up with Law and Kid to destroy those galleons and the music was perfect while those three ships just blasted through the waves to rescue the scabbards from the beast pirate fleet

Kanjuro is a total piece of trash and seeing his real face was actually disgusting because he played them for twenty years for no reason at all

The way those three ships just appeared out of the mist was everything and the look on the beast pirates faces when they realized they were the ones being hunted now was so satisfying to watch as they panicked

My stomach actually turned when Kanjuro started laughing because it sounded so wrong coming from him after everything they went through together as brothers

Luffy saying the sea is for pirates while standing on the Sunny was such a massive moment and it really feels like the real fight is starting now

The realization that Kanjuro was a drawing the whole time is actually insane, and the fact that he has been leaking everything since Zou makes him the most hated man in Wano right now

Ugh, I can't believe Orochi pulled that dirty ink clone stunt, it felt like such a cheap shot. My heart sank watching Momonosuke get snatched away just as I thought the samurai finally had their moment to shine, it's so frustrating to see their hopes get crushed like that.

Momonosuke's desperate screams as Kanjuro snatched him away on that ink bird genuinely got to me; I felt my chest tighten watching Kinemon's anguish. It was just so crushing to see them lose him *again*, especially after all the sacrifices and waiting they’ve endured.

I was literally shouting when the Sunny broke through the fog and seeing Law and Kid right there with Luffy made the wait for this raid feel worth it

Kinemon crying in the mud at the empty port was such a low point for the group and it made the arrival of the Sunny feel a hundred times more meaningful

Those three ships emerging from the storm felt like such a huge weight was lifted off my chest and Luffy standing on the Sunny just looked so cool

The transition from total silence to that theme music as Luffy said the sea is for pirates was done so well and the raid starting like this feels right

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 977 directly follows the Akazaya Nine's preparation and a devastating betrayal reveal in Episode 976, pivoting the Wano Country arc from its planning phase into full-scale action. This installment marks the definitive transition point where strategy becomes execution, as the Straw Hat alliance commits to the raid on Onigashima. Everything that follows — the battles, confrontations, and revelations on Kaido's stronghold — launches from here.
