Big Mom is absolutely terrifying when she is angry and that massive army heading for Luffy looks like a nightmare. You can really feel the scale of her power when the weather changes

I was worried when I heard they only adapted half a chapter for this episode, but the quality was so high that it didn't even matter. The CGI for the enraged army actually looked decent and much better than just having static backgrounds. Seeing Big Mom go into a total rage over Cracker being defeated really sets the stakes for what Luffy is about to face.

I am worried for Luffy because he refuses to leave that spot. He is just waiting for Sanji and he does not care how many people Big Mom sends his way

The way Pudding slipped that note to Sanji really has me guessing; I just can't tell if she's genuinely looking out for him, or if this is all just another one of Big Mom's tricky ploys to mess with the Straw Hats.

The singing food was so weird but it actually fits the Whole Cake Island vibe perfectly. Seeing the food dance around made the lunch scene feel very eerie

Okay, when that storm Big Mom conjured just *ate* the sky, I genuinely gasped. It's one thing to hear about an Emperor's power, but seeing her literally twist the weather into a destructive beast like that really hammered home why she's so feared by everyone.

Ugh, that syrup rain was so absolutely disgusting and seeing it coat everything just made me feel so claustrophobic for the Straw Hats. I can't imagine trying to fight or even just move around in that sticky mess, especially with everyone split up, it's gotta be an absolute nightmare for them.

I honestly forgot how creepy Big Mom's powers are until the inanimate objects started singing, and seeing Sanji stuck in the middle of that crazy family is just depressing

Luffy is being so stubborn and it is hard to watch him take more of a beating when he already looks like he is going to collapse at any second

That massive dark cloud hovering over the army immediately gave me a sense of dread; this revenge squad clearly isn't just some run-of-the-mill threat. I started to think, 'Are these guys even more dangerous than we thought?' because they really seemed to be channeling something truly dark and powerful to make such an entrance.

It makes my skin crawl seeing how the Vinsmoke family treats this literal nightmare of a tea party like it is just a normal afternoon business meeting

It is a bit annoying that they only adapted half a chapter this time but the animation on Big Mom and her army made it feel a bit more substantial at least

The scale of Big Mom's army coming over the horizon is terrifying and poor Luffy is already half dead from the fight with Cracker but he still refuses to budge from that spot

Whoa, that Song of Sweets! I honestly didn't think something could be both so strange and so incredibly catchy, but here I am, still humming it hours later. It was such a quintessential One Piece moment, feeling completely outlandish but making me grin from ear to ear.

The pacing definitely dragged with those flashbacks but the tension is still crazy high right now. Seeing Luffy battered and bruised while that massive army marches toward him is a lot to take in, especially with the creepy singing food in the background, because it really captures how insane Big Mom is and how dangerous this island has become

Watching the Vinsmokes sit there stone faced while the food sings and dances is so unsettling and Big Mom really is a freak for making everything alive like that

Luffy staying in that exact spot while Big Mom sends a whole army after him is the most stubborn thing he has ever done and it shows his loyalty to Sanji

Those CGI soldiers in the Enraged Army look a bit weird and the sheer number of them makes the situation feel impossible for a guy who just fought for hours

I feel so bad for Luffy right now because he can barely stand and he has to face that entire Enraged Army alone just to keep a promise to Sanji
professor_kukui's avatar

I was honestly impressed by how they handled the enraged army because usually those big crowd scenes look like a total mess but the CGI actually made them feel intimidating and seeing Luffy stand his ground against all of them just for Sanji had me feeling a lot of respect for him and I wonder what Pudding is planning with that note

EPISODE CONTEXT

Deep into the Whole Cake Island arc, episode 809 functions as a critical escalation point, transitioning from the internal political tensions and personal confrontations of recent episodes into a full-scale external threat bearing down on the Straw Hats. The previous episodes established fractured alliances and high-stakes decisions, and this entry channels all of that momentum into an impending siege. It directly sets the stage for the explosive confrontations that follow, making it essential connective tissue for the arc's climax.
