I really felt for Coby when he tried to stop Luffy even though he knew he stood no chance against him. It showed so much heart, and seeing how far he has come from being a scared kid on Alvida's ship makes his defeat here even better. Luffy accidentally unleashing that Conqueror's Haki right when Ace was about to die left me speechless.

Whitebeard just kept going, even with a massive hole blown through his chest, and I was genuinely speechless watching him swing that bisento like it was nothing. It makes you realize why they call him a monster, because that's not human strength or will.

i am still processing how luffy just used that kingly haki to stop the executioners from killing ace

I seriously gasped when that Conqueror's Haki burst out right as they were about to execute Ace. It was such an insane moment, I wondered if Luffy even knew what he was doing or if it was just pure instinct saving his brother.

luffy just used that kingly haki without even knowing it and knocked out half the battlefield

coby using shave and actually trying to fight luffy shows how much he changed since the start of the series even if he got one shotted

the way the marineford war keeps switching between total despair and tiny bits of hope makes it feel so heavy

I still have goosebumps from when Luffy screamed and everyone just fell over and even the admirals looked surprised for a second

I swear, when Luffy just *unleashed* that Haki without even trying, my jaw dropped. Even the admirals looked utterly stunned, like their entire worldview just got rocked in that one moment.

The sheer respect Luffy showed Coby by taking him seriously for a second really makes that punch feel different than a normal fight

It is wild that Whitebeard can still swing that massive weapon and take names while he is coughing up blood like that

When Coby tried to stand up to Luffy, I just felt this deep ache for him, realizing he genuinely believes he's doing the right thing for his marine ideals even though it’s impossible here. But then Luffy's Conqueror's Haki burst out of nowhere, and my jaw absolutely dropped seeing everyone just crumple like that; it was such an unexpected display of power.

How was Garp supposed to choose? My gut twisted watching him, a man so dedicated to justice, completely torn between his role and his grandsons Luffy and Ace clashing in the middle of that messy war. I can't imagine the heartbreak of seeing your family on the opposing side, especially after all the love he poured into them.

You can really tell Coby has changed so much since the beginning and him standing up to Luffy like that took some serious guts

Whitebeard is literally fighting with a hole in his chest and it is actually terrifying how he keeps going despite the blood

Ace was seriously on the brink, and I truly felt my heart stop before that insane wave of energy just flattened everyone in its path. I'm still trying to wrap my head around what that even *was* — did Luffy really just do that, and how much more power is he hiding?

the marines look genuinely panicked because of how luffy is just charging through the middle of the plaza and knocking everyone out

How is Whitebeard even alive after what Akainu did to him and the way he keeps swinging that naginata is absolutely terrifying

EPISODE CONTEXT

Deep in the Marineford Arc, this episode follows directly from Episode 477 where Luffy received a critical second wind to keep pushing toward his goal. Episode 478 channels that momentum into both physical and ideological confrontations, with Coby's reappearance adding unexpected emotional stakes to the battlefield. It bridges directly into Episode 479, where the path to the arc's central rescue mission sharpens, escalating the war's highest-tension stretch.
