I never thought that skeleton had such a sad reason for keeping his afro and hearing he wants to see Laboon again made me cry like a baby

Brook's past with Laboon suddenly made so much sense in those flashbacks, and I finally understood that his obsession with his hair isn't just vanity. It actually broke my heart a little to realize it's all about keeping a promise and seeing his friend again.

The way Brook is so desperate to protect his hair because it's the only thing Laboon might recognize really hurts, especially after seeing how long that poor whale has been hitting the mountain

Zoro immediately jumping in to help Brook get his shadow back after hearing the story shows he already respects him as a member of the crew and that loyalty is great

I can't believe Brook has been waiting fifty years to see that whale again and knowing he is still fighting for that afro just so his friend recognizes him makes the promise so much better

I can't believe Brook has been keeping that promise for fifty years and the fact that Laboon is still waiting at the start of the Grand Line makes me want to cry

Brook playing his music alone on that ship while thinking of his promise is so depressing and you start to understand why he is so obsessed with his hair

Hearing the name Laboon again gave me actual chills because it ties the entire journey together so perfectly and my heart sank when Brook realized the whale was still waiting

It is crazy to think about Brook being out there in the fog this whole time, especially while the crew was meeting Crocus and Laboon at the very start of their adventure
kamaro's avatar

Luffy telling Brook he knows Laboon was a great way to bridge that gap because that skeleton finally felt a spark of hope after being trapped for decades

I honestly had no idea that Brook and his old crew were the ones Laboon was waiting for back at the Twin Capes. Seeing Brook talk about his fifty years of loneliness in the fog while clinging to that promise broke my heart, especially when Luffy decided right then that he would help them reunite. This series really knows how to pay off long-term setup

I still can't believe Brook is the pirate Laboon has been waiting for this whole time and the connection clicked so fast it made my head spin

nobody could have predicted that the giant whale from the beginning would be connected to the skeleton musician from the ghost ship and it shows that this whole story was actually thought out from the start because fifty years is a massive amount of time for brook to be alone and now he finally has a chance to keep his promise to laboon

seeing brook talk about his promise while looking at his own bones makes the jokes way harder to laugh at now that we know the truth

brook having a reason to join the crew that goes back hundreds of episodes is so good and luffy is definitely going to make that reunion happen

I honestly stood up when the connection to Laboon finally clicked because it feels like everything came full circle from hundreds of episodes ago and seeing Brook worry about his afro because it is the only thing the whale might recognize really hurt to watch after everything he has been through and Luffy inviting him on the spot was the perfect way to handle it too

I thought Brook was just a funny skeleton, but his backstory with the whale is genuinely one of the saddest things in this whole show

i am actually crying about a skeleton caring so much about his hair just so a whale can recognize him after fifty years

Brook waited fifty years in the dark, and Laboon spent that same time hitting his head against a wall for a crew that was already gone

the way this show tied brook back to the very start of the grand line blew my mind and it makes me want to go back and rewatch the reverse mountain episodes again

EPISODE CONTEXT

Positioned deep within the Thriller Bark arc, this episode follows the crew's growing understanding of Brook's past and his connection to Laboon — a callback that stretches all the way back to the early Grand Line. It serves as the emotional turning point that galvanizes the Straw Hats before they launch their full counterattack against Thriller Bark's forces, bridging introspection with the escalating action ahead.
