I can't believe Brook is actually willing to die just for his hair but then he explained it can't grow back and it actually made sense and he really needs that afro for his friend Laboon

It was so satisfying to see Nami finally get her shadow back after Brook used the salt on that spider monkey zombie

When Oars woke up and immediately started shouting about meat and becoming the pirate king, I couldn't help but crack up, like, seriously? Luffy's personality is so incredibly strong that it completely overwrites this giant zombie's own mind, which is just wild to me.

That desperation in Brook's voice, begging Ryuma not to mess with his afro because it's how Laboon will recognize him, really got to me. I can only imagine the sheer isolation and hope he's carried all these years, clinging to that one physical link to his old crew and the whale.

Moria really messed up by giving Luffys shadow to a giant who only cares about eating meat and becoming the pirate king

When Brook was on the ground, clinging to his afro, I just felt a pang in my chest seeing him so desperate to protect that promise to Laboon. It really emphasized how deep his loyalty runs, even after all those years alone.

Brook using a salted fish to try and beat the zombies in that flashback was such a ridiculous idea but at least he finally figured out the salt trick

I never thought I would get this emotional over a skeleton defending his hair but Brook explaining that his afro is the only thing Laboon will recognize really got to me and it makes his fight against Ryuma feel so much more personal than just getting his shadow back plus seeing Oars act exactly like Luffy while destroying everything was hilarious

Ryuma is actually terrifying with that sword, and it is crazy how Brook is basically fighting a better version of himself right now

The way Oars just swatted Luffy away like a fly shows how much of a threat he is now that he has that rubber power
pierce's avatar

Nami being taken away by that creep Absalom makes the skin crawl and the Straw Hats need to save her immediately
wallace's avatar

This whole castle atmosphere is so different from the usual island adventures and Brook fits into the crew dynamic perfectly already

Oars screaming about meat and the Pirate King title while being that massive is a total nightmare scenario for the crew

Oars swatted everyone away like flies and it just shows how much trouble the crew is in because Moria has a literal monster now

Absalom is seriously the worst for trying to force Nami into a wedding, and you just want Sanji to show up and kick his teeth in already

My heart broke a little when Brook explained why the afro matters so much and his old crew would only recognize that one thing
glenn_radars's avatar

I thought the afro was just another Brook gag but the way he talks about it being the only thing his friends would recognize after all these years really hit me hard and now I am rooting for him to beat Ryuma even though he looks way outmatched, and also Oars acting like Luffy was so cool to see

I couldn't stop laughing when Oars started acting exactly like Luffy and the way he just wants meat even as a giant zombie is hilarious

Oars waking up and immediately yelling about being the Pirate King was funny and weird and seeing a giant Luffy is actually terrifying

Brook humming while he fights Ryuma is cool and spooky at the same time and he is really trying his best against his own shadow

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming off the dramatic awakening of Oars and the chaos it unleashed across Thriller Bark, this episode narrows its lens to give Brook his defining solo moment against Ryuma, deepening his character before the arc's larger battles escalate. It bridges the gap between the crew's scattered skirmishes and the full-scale confrontations still ahead. By grounding Brook's motivations here, the episode strengthens the emotional stakes for everything that follows on Thriller Bark.
