Commander Jonathan seems way too smart for a filler villain and him finding Usopp goggles in the water while his men freak out about ghosts really shows that he is on another level

It is hard to believe this is filler because the comedy with Chopper trying to hide in the trash and Robin just casually spying on marines feels exactly like the regular show

Sanji worrying about the girls while he probably just wants to find the kitchen is classic, and the chaos of the crew being split up everywhere makes the whole invasion feel more like a hide and seek game

The marines screaming about a cursed ghost ship while the crew is actually just hiding in the shadows is hilarious and the way Jonathan figured it out so fast was impressive

Having Luffy follow that cook around because he is hungry is exactly what I expected him to do after crashing the ship and his priorities are always just food and nothing else

Dropping into a marine base from the sky is actually insane and Luffy immediately looking for meat while everyone else is panicking made me laugh so hard

How does a high security fortress get invaded by a ship just falling on them and the marines thinking it is a ghost ship because of the tea and books is such a funny touch

I think it is great how this arc starts right after Skypiea, and I love how Jonathan is already proving to be a different kind of marine leader because he did not fall for the ghost ship rumors since he noticed the tea was still warm and the books were neat, and it is funny watching Zoro get captured so fast too

I still cannot believe they dropped the ship right into the middle of a marine base and now everyone is split up and trying to hide in the worst ways possible

Zoro getting lost and ending up in a jail cell within five minutes is the most predictable thing ever but it still worked perfectly after that wild landing from the sky
gagoze_ghoul_75's avatar
gagoze_ghoul_75
Zoro losing his swords and then just stumbling around into a cage is the most Zoro thing that could happen during a secret infiltration mission

The state of emergency being called just because a ship fell from the clouds is such a One Piece moment, and Nami stealing that uniform so fast was impressive
brook_bard's avatar

Luffy just eating all the food in the kitchen while Sanji tries to look like a professional chef is hilarious and the base commander is totally onto them already

I honestly expected to hate this since it is filler but the whole setup of them falling out of the sky into G-8 is incredible and Commander Jonathan is already a huge step up from the usual idiots in the Marines because he actually uses his brain and realizes they are hiding inside his base instead of just screaming and eating his dinner while everyone else panics

Chopper ending up in the infirmary and actually helping the doctors is so pure even though he is technically supposed to be hiding from them

The sight of the Merry all busted up in that fortress was pretty sad, but Zoro getting captured because he wandered into the wrong room was classic

bazardo_blast_484
Robin knocking out that inspector and stealing his clothes was such a cold move and I really liked how effortlessly she just blended into the base
itzzeom's avatar

Commander Jonathan seems way smarter than the usual Marine villains and he figured out it was the Straw Hats almost immediately instead of falling for the ghost ship story

Seeing Sanji and Luffy pretending to be Marine cooks is actually the funniest thing ever especially because Sanji is clearly way better at cooking than anyone else there

EPISODE CONTEXT

This episode launches the G-8 filler arc immediately after the Straw Hats' dramatic descent from Skypiea, bridging the gap before the next canon storyline. It establishes the central conflict — the crew trapped and separated inside a Marine stronghold — that will drive the coming episodes. Despite being filler, the G-8 Arc is often recommended as essential viewing due to its strong character work and original antagonist.
