A flashy and energetic clash that showcases power and personality. The pacing is sharp and engaging.

Ace is way too strong for a bounty hunter like Scorpion and the way he handled those gadgets showed the massive gap between them and the grand line pirates

I still cant get over Ace just handing Luffy that random scrap of paper before he left and I know it has to be important later because the music changed so much during that scene

Those weird gadgets were never going to work against a fire man but Scorpion had his heart in the right place for his sons

Seeing Scorpion lie about Blackbeard just to get Ace to fight him was a bit much but at least he was doing it for Chip and Dip and their dreams

Luffy and his brother have such a fun bond in the desert and it was funny seeing how much more polite Ace is compared to our captain

The fight with the badlands bounty hunter was cool for a second, but it mostly felt like a distraction and now we are just back to walking through the sand

Vivi is really showing how much she has grown and her focus on the kingdom helps keep the group on track while they wander around the dunes

I felt so bad for Scorpion trying to lie to his kids about being a hero when he was really just a desperate bounty hunter getting destroyed by a literal fire man

Seeing Ace just decimate everything with his fruit makes the power scale feel so much bigger and it is a shame he is already heading off on his own again

It is pretty clear Ace was only here to show off his fire powers and give Luffy that mysterious note before the show forced him to leave the group for some reason

I thought it was hilarious seeing Luffy just hang out with the desert animals like everything is normal while everyone else is dying of heat

You can really tell this was a filler episode since the plot did not move at all, but the stuff with Scorpion and his sons was actually kind of touching even if he never stood a chance against Ace and it is weird seeing a guy with that name who is not an animal so the crew needs to finally get to the main fight

Ace leaving that piece of paper for Luffy and then just vanishing back into the desert is such a tease since we barely got any time with him this arc

Scorpion thinking he could actually take on Ace just to feed his kids is honestly a lot sadder than expected and it makes the whole desert chase feel more human

Ace actually fighting was a highlight for me but it felt so fast and him just leaving already makes me kind of sad because the dynamic with the crew was so fun while it lasted

Having a brother like Ace makes the Straw Hats look so much more formidable and he just fits in with the crew perfectly

Scorpion going after a legendary pirate just to feed his family was actually pretty brave and it made him a lot more than just a random villain

It was kind of obvious that the story was slowing down to let Ace hang out for a while, and even though he is cool I wish we could just get back to the main plot with Vivi

Handling that bounty hunter was so effortless for Ace and he has this natural cool factor that makes every scene in this town better

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming off Episode 100's focus on Kohza and Vivi's intertwined pasts, this episode pivots to flesh out Ace as more than just Luffy's cool older brother before the Alabasta conflict intensifies. It serves as a meaningful character pause within the desert stretch, bridging the crew's journey toward the kingdom's deeper political crisis explored in Episode 102 and beyond.
