this episode is basically setup for the five kage summit arc with a lot of characters just standing around talking about their next moves, naruto getting punched by karui as a loyalty flex is kind of interesting but the pacing drags and not much actually happens

the anbu look so incompetent when they have to use a whole memory jutsu on a kid and still cant figure out that they were chasing a fake puppet the entire time

you can tell Sakura is actually turning into a real medic because she stayed in the morgue to examine the body and found out it didn't even have a chakra network

I really like how this arc turned into a detective show and the way Tenten used the burn marks on the trees to prove the explosion was a total setup was actually smart. It felt a lot more grounded than the usual ninja fights and Naruto trying to remember the old man under hypnosis made the betrayal feel a lot more personal.

watching all the different genin squads work together to find those traps was cool because it actually felt like everyone was useful for once instead of me just watching Naruto do everything

I felt so bad for Naruto when he realized Gennou never actually finished a bowl of ramen because it means their whole bond over food was probably a total lie to hide his real identity

When Hinata used her Byakugan and saw absolutely no chakra in the body, I gasped because that immediately told me the old carpenter is definitely still out there in the village. It's such a chilling thought, wondering where he could be hiding and what he's planning next.

seeing hundreds of stolen blueprints literally falling from the sky like rain was the weirdest thing ever and poor Shikamaru looked like his brain was about to explode trying to figure it out

It was pretty intense watching everyone realize the Hidden Waterfall retreat was just another distraction, especially since it means the real threat is still hidden inside the village

Those fake remains not having the chakra network or the right calluses on the hands was a great reveal and it shows that Gennou is a complete master of deception

I usually expect filler arcs to be pretty boring and slow but the mystery surrounding Gennou is actually keeping me interested and the investigation at the morgue was surprisingly dark for this show plus the ANBU using hypnosis on Naruto to dig through his memories was a really creative way to get the plot moving without relying on a random fight

That moment when the blueprints started raining from the sky was actually unsettling and the confusion on Shikamaru's face during that scene really sold the mystery

Seeing the Genin work as a forensic team at the crater was a nice change of pace, and the way they used the Byakugan to disprove the body was really clever

You should see how much Sakura has changed because watching her stay calm in the morgue while Ino was grossed out really showed her growth under Tsunade

It really hit me when Naruto realized he never saw Gennou finish a bowl of ramen because that tiny lie made their whole friendship feel like a total sham

The detail about the trees being charred on both sides to prove the explosion was a trick was actually smart writing and the mystery is surprisingly good

I thought the ANBU memory jutsu was such a cool way to look for clues and it made the whole investigation feel way more serious than the usual filler mission

Gennou letting a bag of scrolls go from a bird was a wild way to end the episode and it makes the whole situation feel way more dangerous since the motive is still hidden

Naruto getting hypnotized just to remember a nice old man who turned out to be a massive liar is just painful and the way he clutched his fists outside the ramen shop was heavy

Sakura staying in the morgue when Ino couldn't handle it shows how much she is growing under Tsunade, plus her noticing those soft hands on the body was a total pro move

EPISODE CONTEXT

The Hidden Leaf 11 Gather!' and continues investigating the Gennō mystery.
