classic filler vibes with naruto coaching some random guy in a street vendetta while an ostrich tags along, the only saving grace is naruto reflecting on sasuke and understanding his revenge mindset a bit more, feels like a detour episode that pads time but at least has a decent character moment buried in it

Akahoshi killing the Third Hoshikage just to keep the star training going makes his obsession with power just disgusting

I really thought Sumaru was an orphan so finding out his mom Natsuhi is actually that masked ninja felt like a huge relief and she is actually still alive

I finally understand why Natsuhi had to leave but it still feels so tragic that Sumaru grew up thinking he was alone. Akahoshi is definitely one of the more punchable filler villains because of how he treated the Third Hoshikage, and seeing him literally eat his own guys for more power was just disturbing. I hope Naruto punches him soon.

This episode had way too much talking and too many flashbacks for a filler arc and Neji was just standing there doing nothing while the plot explained itself which made the middle feel really boring

Where are all the other adults in this village besides the main bad guys and it feels like only kids are hanging around while Akahoshi does all this crazy stuff and kills the leader in secret

The explanation for why the star was stolen actually tied the whole arc together well and it was cool to see Natsuhi reveal herself as Sumaru's mother after all the mystery around that masked ninja

It was a shocker to find out Akahoshi actually murdered the Third Hoshikage, especially since he acted like such a leader. The mystery of the star is finally starting to feel worth the wait.

I felt so bad for Sumaru when the truth about the Third Hoshikage came out and it sucks that Akahoshi manipulated everyone for so long just to keep that dangerous star training alive

Akahoshi is a total monster for what he did to his own henchmen and watching him just absorb their chakra like that was easily the coolest part of an otherwise slow episode

Neji and Tenten were basically just background characters today while the village lore was explained and the flashbacks were a bit much and the pacing slowed down way too much during the middle section

I think it makes total sense why Natsuhi and her husband stole the star now and learning the truth about Sumaru having a mom this whole time hit me pretty hard

The twist about Akahoshi killing the Third Hoshikage was actually wild and he is such a snake for doing that just to keep the star training going and his chakra eating move looked really creepy

Finally seeing Akahoshi get exposed for the murder of the leader was a satisfying payoff for sitting through this whole star arc

I actually didn't mind the slower pace because finally knowing that Akahoshi killed the Third Hoshikage made the whole star village situation feel much more serious, and it was a bit annoying seeing Neji and Tenten get pushed to the side, but the drama with Natsuhi and Sumaru worked well enough to keep me from skipping the rest of the arc

You can really tell this is filler when the most interesting characters like Tenten and Lee get zero lines while the new characters talk for the whole half hour

I was really moved by the scene where Sumaru found out the masked ninja was actually Natsuhi, because he spent so long thinking his parents abandoned him

EPISODE CONTEXT

Positioned as the middle chapter of the Star Guard Mission filler arc, this episode follows 'Hidden Jutsu! The Price of Ninja Art: Kujaku,' which exposed the physical dangers of star training, and now digs into the political and historical layers behind those dangers. It directly sets up 'Reunion: The Remaining Time,' where the personal fallout from these revelations hits the characters hardest. At episode 181 of 220, this sits firmly in Naruto's extended filler stretch before the series finale, well removed from any canon material.
