This filler arc finally wrapped up and while seeing Neji get promoted to Jonin was a nice touch, the ending felt a bit rushed and pointless. I am definitely tired of hearing Gaara give the same speech about Naruto being his savior every single time he talks. It was good to see Fuu one last time though her exit felt empty and her potential felt wasted

The way the show keeps using filler to delay the actual story is frustrating and this whole Chunin Exam thing just felt like a massive detour we did not need

Shira just handing over the scroll to Matsuri was such a weird moment because she clearly had no idea how strong he actually was and he just avoided the fight

I think the visual of Fuu inside her cocoon was the coolest part of this episode, even if the rest of the arc felt like it was dragging its feet to avoid the main plot

Watching Neji flex his skills in these exams makes you remember why he was such a beast early on and that double promotion felt like the recognition he always deserved

Asuma and Neji showing up so vibrant and alive in those flashbacks really made my chest ache, knowing what was coming for them both. It's like the show was deliberately trying to punch me in the gut, reminding me of their laughter and strength before their tragic ends.

Gaara talking about how Naruto changed his life for the hundredth time is getting a bit old and we really need to get back to the actual war soon

Neji getting that double promotion to Jonin was the highlight of this whole filler arc and seeing him in action again just makes his actual death feel even worse

Shino finally getting his promotion to Chunin was cool to see even if it is just filler and he definitely deserved it after everything he did in the exams

Fuu's cocoon technique was seriously cool, and I was so hyped to see what she could do with it, but then she just *vanished* from the storyline. I'm honestly a little annoyed we never actually got to see her fight or her ultimate fate; it felt like such a missed opportunity compared to how much focus other Jinchuriki got.

Hold on, the Akatsuki actually snatched Fuu right after all that filler?! I was absolutely reeling from that ending, like who decided to drop such a dark, serious development right when my brain was on cooldown mode, and what are they even planning with her?

Seeing Asuma and Neji again definitely tugged at my heartstrings, you know? It's awesome to get that glimpse, but it also kinda reminded me how long we've been stuck in this buildup, and I just wanna see the real action of the war arc already.

Neji finally making Jonin in this filler arc gave me such a weird, almost painful, sense of pride. I found myself thinking back to his early struggles with the Hyuga fate, and it's just so crushing to see him achieve this milestone knowing how his story truly ends, despite all his efforts to change his destiny.

Fuu getting snatched by the Akatsuki in that side story felt so damn cheap to me; it's just grim knowing such a harsh fate went down without the main cast even being aware. My stomach dropped thinking about how many other unknown ninja probably met their end in similar, quiet ways without anyone ever knowing their full story.

Seriously, I was so hyped to finally see the Seven Tails go all out after all this time they spent building it up. It really feels like they just robbed us of a truly epic moment, I mean, why even tease its full potential if we're not gonna see it?

''Finally, this filler arc is actually over, I was seriously starting to lose my mind with how long it dragged on. It's such a relief to know we're getting back to the actual war, because that's where all the real action and tension is, you know?''

Gaara finally finding common ground with the other Jinchuriki was a relief to see, I figured he'd resonate with their shared burden of being outcasts. But then, my jaw absolutely dropped when they completely skipped the Hidan and Kakuzu fight; I was genuinely invested in that whole arc and felt cheated out of the climax!

Fuu, with her creepy vibe and unique design, had me convinced she was destined for a much larger role. It felt like such a waste to just end her arc so abruptly without letting her show off her true power in a proper fight scene; I was genuinely looking forward to seeing more from her.

I can't believe they actually captured Fuu off-screen after everything! Seriously, I was really hoping to finally see the Seven Tails in action, but nope, they just skipped the whole fight, and it just left me feeling so cheated after sitting through this entire filler arc.

It was wild seeing those younger ninjas totally fine with Gaara, like, I remember back in the Chunin Exams when he was pure terror. It just goes to show how far he's come, you know, it's pretty inspiring to see his growth.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at episode 413 of 500, this lands deep in Shippuden's extended filler stretch that interrupts the Fourth Great Ninja War arc. It follows 'Neji's Judgment,' which introduced the threat against Gaara, and directly sets the stage for 'On the Brink of Death' by transitioning from personal reflection to the consequences of leadership decisions within the Sand Village. Skippable for war-arc progression, but completionists focused on Gaara's character will find connective tissue here.
